Hello, Sorry to bother you, but I've been looking on our database and found your group to be near to Drax, Eggborough or Ferrybridge C, and thought that maybe you may be able to help me. I'm hoping to fing somebody who lives near to a coal (and nuclear, and wind-farm, if you happen to know anyone who lives near any of these, by chance!) power station, who wouldn't mind being interviewed about the effects it has on their life. Let me know if you do know anyone who wouldn't mind me contacting them. Look foreward to hearing from you Thanks very much Celia Celia Austin Climate Volunteer Friends of the Earth Tel: 020 7566 1673 Fax: 020 7490 0881 26-28 Underwood Street, London, N1 7JQ
I live fairly near a nuclear power station. I seem to remember that not long ago it was stormed by Greenpeace activists, who managed to get up onto the roof without any difficulty, in an effort to prove how open these places are as targets for terrorist attacks. This is slightly worrying to say the least....
Nuclear power's great! Since living near Sellafield, I glow in the dark and never get lost on the way home anymore! Plus the girls love it when I show them my day-glow dick, so getting laid is easier thanks to fission!!! Oh yeah, and the second head is great for licking two breasts at once!!!!
They will jest..i am afraid.. Claire ... Are you going too see were people get their information from , be that positive or negative. Ok i would not want to live next to nuclear plant ..not because i was unsure of the safety ... just because of the barmy army loonies making all the noise outside..just kidding
Erm, I don't know the details of it, just what I got from the email... Its Celia from FoE thats doing the research.... I will send her an email and ask Love Clairexxx
Ok have an opinion and explain...don't joke ...thats all i was saying just joking about multiple heads is ok a bit of fun ( i do have a sense of humour) ...but it does not realy tell me a lot about what you think... If all Celia gets is nonsense like 2 headed people and glowing in the dark ...then these prejudices come from somewere ... Lots of things continualy get a bad rap even if its perfectly safe...so just laughing about it is a bit of a cop out (IMHO). Do you know what i mean ???.
That's fine. The thing is though, you do seem to have a habit of assuming that people who're opposed to things like nuclear power and genetic food are simply prejudiced, rather than accepting that we actually have informed opinions.
OK prejudices are pre judgements ... i am sorry.. If someone answered and said my son might have 3 eyes ..then i would think the only research they did was watching the simpsons. Tell me what you think then ..and why. ???
Oh, my argument against nuclear power really isn't that complicated. In fact, you could boil it down to one word. Chernobyl!
Well chernobyl was human error...and did not end the world...ok that a bit insensitive. But their are countless reactors humming away causing no trouble at all.. My arguement is simple as well.. in the long term they are better for the environment. and http://pw1.netcom.com/~res95/energy/nuclear.html (ok thats not as simple but anyway )
But human error does happen. I accept that they're generally safe, but when the stakes are that high, can we really afford to take the risk? What terrorists attacked a nuclear power station? What if there was an earthquake? That might seem unrealistic, but Japan has 25% of its domestic energy provided by nuclear power, and it's a very geologically unstable country.
