i was going to get one of those romany caravans to live in but it wouldnt fit down the drive, so we thought of getting a wooden cabin and assembling it there, i want to decourate it in the style of the caravan......its quite a special thing for me as my nana was a romany gypsy so it feels good to be round things that she would have been around as a girl :)

my dad is a great carpenter and he is gona make my bed for me and everything, but i wanted to decourate it myself, i know this is an odd request but do you have any ideas?

exotic fabric covered pillows, beads, wall hangings, tapestries, cool bright colored blankets, smells of incense, copper coin curtains, swishy fabrics...

for bed decor I'm really into fringy blankets.... although blankets take a long time to knit. But I have bought a funky blanket at a store once or twice and layered on my own fringe out of matching/colourful scraps of yarn.

a true vardo would have been utilitarian: anything that could be done outside was, so all bedding, etc. would have been portable. Probably featherbeds (my Romani relatives who would know this have died) and quilts.
My tribe had a particular anethema to red on women (blood). so, red decor is probably a bit outside the rule.

That's a really neat idea, I'd like to incorporate some romani feel into my Inda room (anyways, linguists think that gypsies originally came from north india, neat). Anything fringy, warm, plush comes to mind, lots of guild as well.

I sure don't have interesting family histories...my family is sooo boring, until the kin that had a small castle in spain, but that is four generations removed and I don't even know how to say what I am to those people.

Seems like you could almost get away with a morrocan style in there...

I don't know much at all about my family. We have tried looking things up/doing geneology stuff, but I'm going to try to really get into it when I have the money to get someone to help me. We have some problems with knowing who's who and real names of people in my weird family. lol

Arlia, please post pics when you are finished decorating! I would love to see outside pictures as well, because your living arrangements sound really neat, and I would like to do something like that someday. Good luck with everything!
