Lately I've been thinking about starting a book about teenage drug use and addiction, shown by a first-person perspective and based on a true story. It's supposed to be educational I guess, though it's not an anti-drug story. It will illustrate the effects of drugs on the mind of the individual, the effects of drugs on the lifestyle of the individual, the building-up of an addiction, problems that drugs bring up in ones life, etc. Just a book about the drug lifestyle in general, as seen and experienced through a teenagers eyes.
i've been entertaining an idea like this for a while. I think it would be great. are you going to be doing drugs so that you can accurately describe the effects on the mind?
hasnt it been written about a lot to great effect, by some of the greatest writers who ever lived ? Burroughs, Thomas DeQuincey, Irvine Welsh, etc etc etc
I've seen a lot of books about drugs in general but I've found no books which tell of drugs through a teenagers perspective.
2extreme, One old saw about writing a novel is write what you know about. Doesn't matter if the subject has been published before, if you have a fresh perspective then it is worthwhile. Also, there's an immense satisfaction of doing what you feel, like writing a novel, instead of just thinking about it; you should try it...there's nothing to lose. Worse case scenario would be you don't like writing novels. What's the alternative...do nothing? 8I
yeah i think it sounds like a good idea. i agree, doesn't matter how many other books have been written on the subject it matters more how you write the material check out the book SMACK if you can it's a book about teenage drug use written from multiple perspectives really a great read good luck with the book!! and how ambitious to want to write a novel
Every idea has been explored. Originality doesn't come from broad concepts, but from the actual crafting of your writing. It could be very intresting.
Maybe there is a fresh perspective - anyone heard of a new drug on the british dance scene called D09 - or DO9 ? relatively new designer drug is what theyre calling it here - theres always that but so far - opium, ecstasy, acid, hash, leaf, heroin, ketamine, coke, php, etc etc etc have all been done to death in novels and plays etc might be good to sort out a new drug to write about
I've always wanted to capture the green fairy and drink in deeply her spirit and watch myself become transformed. Then see if the truth of finding your muse is really true. Supposedly she dwells across the open seas and only pale sisters languish here on our shores awaiting her return. Anyone know where absinthe can be had? 8I
