Can anyone confirm my impression that anarchism is heavily composed of men these days... I go through all the internet forums and not a single female posts. I guess I do miss the anarchist girl I met a while back. Haven't run into one since...then again I don't mingle with anarchists or any other group often anyways. Anarchists are perhaps the most gender-homogeneous group I can think of. If you don't agree, tell me why. If you do, why do you think that is?
i know plent of anarchist females, and meet new ones fairly often. im sorry its not like that for you, we need to all be in this together! anarcho-feminism seems to be a fairly well supported theory today.
I have known many anarchist women and have heard of many more so I wouldn't say anarchism is male dominated. Maybe it's just that all the female anarchists out there are actually doing something instead of hanging out on internet forums
I think the reason there are far less women anarchists than men is because without gouvernment or laws women wouldn't have the state of equality that they have today, they would be raped more frequently and would have to do whatever men told them to do because they are physically alot weaker than men. Seems so obvious when its there in black and white doesn't it?
You my friend are a complete idiot. No offense or anything but that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. For one, all modern States actually prohibited women to vote and have equal rights not too long ago. It was only thanks to the suffragetes that women obtained the right to vote, NOT the State. And rape? Do you even study history? Take WW2, when tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of japanese women were kidnapped by the State and offered to the japanese military so they could be raped by japanese soldiers. Or more recently, take the Atenco revolution in Mexico, where police officers were given condoms so that they could rape the women whom they arrested. The government and the current culture encourage men to rape if anything and the prison system is just a pathetic excuse to make people think the State is actually doing something to stop rape. Anarchy is about challenging the root of problems of society, not coming up with pathetic punishments for those who have already commited the crime. Now take Catalonia in the 30's, after the revolution when society was virtually working on anarchist principles and where women were actually Free, and acts of rape were practically non-existant. I think you underestimate anarchism and women a lot too much, so my advice would be to do a little more research before pretending like you know something.
Well if you think about it there arent actually that many anarchists of either gender who shout up about it - most just prefer to live according to their principles rather than propogandise their cause - I know many many women who are anarchists but they just get on with living that way and interact without the need to be vocal about their lifestyle - same with most anarchist guys I know - If you look at the whole population of hip forums I would guess theres an uneven balance of male to females here. You might ask why there are no female atheists on these forums either - infact now you mention it internet forums as a whole are a bit gay ! ooh er!
