Alright, I've been smoking for a while now, but recently I've been having some trouble. I know your heart rate increases slightly when you get high, but recently its been getting to high to levels where i'm afraid that I might be almost having a heart attack. I smoke and like 15 minutes after my heart starts to race. I check my pulse and its just going crazy. I get lightheaded and have to sit down or lay down or I'll pass out. Its happened a couple times so severely where I actually got very very scared and thought I was going to die. It happened a few times before when I first started smoking but didn't happen after that. But recently it happens every time I smoke and I'm almost scared to smoke anymore. I don't think this is natural because I have never heard of this happening to anyone else before. Do you think its a good idea to just quit altogether? Is there something I can do to prevent it from happening other than just quitting? Its hard for me to enjoy being high right now because of how my body is reacting to it, its actually quite scary. And just so you know, I'm in good shape, eat right, run 2-3 miles a day, work out every day, etc etc. Any suggestions?

Same thing just happened to me a while ago, scared the shit out of me, my knees started to buckle and I barely made it from the bathroom where I was blazing back to my room. I was convinced for a while there I was going to die from a heart attack or a brain aneurysm I could feel my heart pounding so hard. I just smoked a bit less the next time and didn't move too much for 10 minutes or so and it went away. I also concentrated on my breathing, making sure I was taking deep steady breaths whenever it felt like it was about to happen again. Hasn't happened to me for a while, but the day after I felt mad messed up, couldn't concentrate and still felt mildly stoned about 18 hours after the initial sesh.

Just went out for a bowl now though and I feel great though, I'm not 100% on what caused it or why it hasn't happened again though, so in retrospect this might not be the most helpful post, but your situation sounded very similar to mine so I thought I'd try to help.

    P.S.

I'm also in prety good shape, bike at least 10km every day, although I probably could be eating better.

Check it fools!" Most of the time, I find it possible that your little spell, could be just from smoking around people, if your a very social-stoner, then everyone is hittin the same pipe, over and over and over again,!? I found out that w/ my athsma also came a greater chance of having broncheidis (spelling), I found out some odd months back that I had self-diagnosed myself for it. Tests and paperwork concluded my diagnosis. I could not just quit my ganja, hell no! Although I found it to my advantage to cut back on cancer stix. I did, I then started to cough more than normally when blazing, and pretty soon I re-diagnosed my self to have my theory come out to a negative. I then realized why they give medicinal mary j to cancer patients and shit.

That same shit has happened to me many many many times. I get really fookin stoned and my heart starts beating really fast, like 175-200bpm. Then I end up passing out and going into convulsions.

That happened to me a lot during my first year of smoking. It still does sometimes, but I just pass it off as negative energy and stress. Try to clear your mind and find a state of peace before you smoke. It always makes my high much more pleasant.

I took some of your advice and I tried doing the deep breaths and it completely prevented it. :D At least last nite. I was very glad tho and had a very good time yesterday.

Dude your heart is probably beatin so fast cuz your stressin out. Next time you smoke just relax, don't worry about your heart. Jus chill bro, you'll be better off. There's no reason to really stress about it anyway cuz what good is it goin to do for you. If you can't handle the wrath of mary jane than stay clear of it until you feel you can get this anxiety under control. Peace and love
