MDMA (methylededioxymethamphetamine) [A synopsis of Biological Psychology by Kalat]

A stimulant at low doses, promoting dopamine release in the brain. At recreational doses, serotonin is also released, occasionally producing hallucinogenic effects as well.

In laboratory studies on primates, MDMA not only stimulates axons that release serotonin, but also destroys them (McCann, Lowe, & Ricaurte, 1997).

Research on humans is difficult, because researchers can ethically not randomly assign people to MDMA and control groups (for obvious reasons, although im sure they could find volunteers). However, many studies have found that repeated MDMA users (when compared to non-users) have more: Anxiety, depression (due largely in part to damage caused to serotonin propigating neurons), sleep problems, memory deficits, attention problems, and impulsiveness, even a year or two after quitting (Monyota, Sorrentino, Lukas & Price, 2002).

Like laboratory animal study results, humans exposed to MDMA have long term deficits in serotonin synthesis and release (Parrott, 2001).

One study concluded that respeated MDMA users have thinner cell layers in certain brain areas (P.M. Thompson et al., 2004). Although it is also important to note a possible confound to such studies, that it is impossible to know how many users had behavioral problems or thin cell layers in the brain prior to repeated MDMA use.

Still, the greater body of researcher suggests considerable risks associated with MDMA.

And as a foot note: I've read a lot of bullshit that people post as fact, and it was pissing me off that people would mislead others, so i compiled this synopsis. This is a brief window into the biology of how MDMA truly affects your brain, so be your own judge, weigh the pros and cons, just keep yourselves informed.

    don't do that.
it makes you really really reaLLY stupid.

for a long long long time.

but don't let it stop you from having a good time.

Never done X myself and don't plan on it. I will say I have a very close friend who took X every day for a week or so, and he insists he's never been the same since. He was a genius before and he's still a genius, but he sometimes have trouble coming up with words, and he has major emotional issues (although to be fair he has always had them, now they are just a big problem).

Just be careful! :) Don't take too much, and LIMIT YOUR USE.

I raelize it's obvious, but you can probably also get hurt by taking it every week for a year or twice a week for a few months or whatever... anything that FLOODS your brain with all of the pleasure NT's is going to fuck you at some point.
