"1 is the Number, and 2 is the 1" (George Jung) What do you think it means? Then if u read George Orwell's 1984 novel remember the part 2+2=5. Let me know what u think..... ill post my thoughts after a number of replies
I dont really know much about Geore Jung except what i can remember from Blow, I could only assume its based around the morals of drugs. Unfortunatly ive never read 1984. But im guessing that Radioheads 2+2=5 has a similar meaning behind it, which ive listened to alot. Are you such a dreamer? To put the world to rights? I'll stay home forever Where two & two always makes up five I'll lay down the tracks Sandbag & hide January has April's showers And two & two always makes up five IT'S THE DEVIL'S WAY NOW THERE IS NO WAY OUT YOU CAN SCREAM & YOU CAN SHOUT IT IS TOO LATE NOW BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION I try to sing along I get it all wrong Eezeepeezeeeezeepeeezee NOT I swat em like flies but Like flies the buggers Keep coming back NOT Maybe not All hail to the thief But I'm not! Don't question my Authority or put me In the dock Cozimnot! Go & tell the king that The sky is falling in When it's not Maybe not. From these lyrics i interporate 2+2=5 to be about how our lives are too easy, what we put in doesnt equal what we get out, "Ill stay at home forever, Where 2+2=5" we set the world up how it is and now we are ignoring the consequences "Ill lay down the tracks, sandbag and hide". The world is dying but its easy to forget when we can go home and sit in luxuary, "January has april showers, But 2 and 2 always makes 5. I know thom york(writer) has dedicated alot of his life to helping the world and i can imagine it must be very frustrating seeing all your efforts lost to the majority. "are you such a dreamer to put the world to rights". To me 2+2=5 is mans attitude to life. From this angle i would look at George Jungs quote to be about how we only need 1 but we always want 2, as he always wanted more in his life.
