    Hotel Abba

Mentioned a ton of times before and will mention it again.

Smoker Friendly, Budget and Golden. Tram stop out front, Albert Heijn Grocery downstairs, 5-10min stroll from Leidseplein and a killer "Free Breakfast" every morning.

A block or two away from Vondelpark is a bonus as well.

    Best of Luck!

Havent booked anywhere yet, I emailed about a room to Abba, i dont think they understand me yet, I just want 1 room 2 beds"not right next to each other", with private bath/shower. You've been there, do they have what i'm lookin for?

I've only ever stayed in the single room (Rm #08) with shared facilities. Which in itself is no big deal as you've got a sink in the room to brush teeth and what not.

I know they have double room with the beds not "right" next to each other but in the same room, but not sure if they have private bath or not. I'm thinkin' shared.

    Best of Luck Cad!

Best way to exchange your cash is via a Debit Card through an ATM.

You'll end up gettin' a much better exchange rate and avoid the hefty fees associated with "Exchange Services", giving you more euro for precious gear. From a fellow stoner...

Not to mention the fact that you don't have to have thousands of dollars on your person while travelling. Bonus!

Trust me on this one. It's absolutely "The" way to go.

    "Spooning"... ROFLMFAO!

well, believe it or not, I found a place up near Centraal station that offered no commission and a rate as good as the banks.

I wish I could remember the name, I'll try to remember to look through my papers.

For reference: I ALWAYS used my bank card in the past, but it cost a commission charge!!

....If you could remember the name of that place it would be great, I'm taking ATM card, but still will have some $ to convert as well.

I'm so sorry...I looked through all my papers from my recent trip, and it seems I did not (as usual) save the receipt from that money changer place...BUT...I can remember (generally) where about it is:

if you're coming down the Rokin (from Centraal Station) heading South, you will see several money change places (some offering no commission as well) you will come to the "Newindiejk". If you make a Right onto the Newindeijk, and if I remember correctly, the place is just off the Rokin near (or on) the Newindeijk. Sorry I don't know the name, but it looks like a tiny business office where the transaction window is recessed from the front door about 2.5 meters.

I hope that helps, though, I can't see how it can :(

good luck. If you can't find that one, there are many "no commission" changers in that area. Some rates are slightly lower, but if there's no commission, it could be worth it to change a lot of money. Look around!

    Cheers!

I'm staying at the Hotel Uptown in March for a few days. It's right above the Rookies near Leidesplein and run by the same people. Reviews online are generally positive and it is certainly smoker friendly. Anyone here have any thoughts on the place?

well rookies can be a fun place, the people who run it are nice, the location is great, the only negative I can think of is that I bet your room will have lots of street noise all night.

Thanks Kroopa. The noise is a given where it is but that's part of the reason I chose the Uptown/Rookies. Been to the coffeeshop many times because its a great place for a mixed crowd of drinkers and smokers.
