Pink floyd is the only artist i really listen to from your list but i listen to other music from your kind of era like New Order, Smiths, The doors.

More recent bands include Radiohead, Mew, Rage against the Machine, Placebo, Gorillaz, Tool, Postal Service, Prodigy, Portishead.

Nowadays it isnt just bands that make good music, DJ's/Producers include, Aphex twin, Squrepusher, Four tet, Shpongle, Leftfield, Above and beyond, Venatian snares.

from your list, i'd agree with Pink Floyd as a must have for any cd/record collection. They are quentissential and I'm still annoyed that I lost one of my discs from Pulse as it was still in my car when some Yobs decided to steal it. :(
Hendrix, and Joplin are also wonderful, though I must admit I only have one Hendrix disc and no Joplin in the collection. I always loved Led Zepplin and occasionally listened to the Doors as well.

As far as other artists, I'd say Queen, definitely Tool & A Perfect Circle (same front man but two different groups/sounds), Portishead, The Cure, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, and probably another handful that I can't think of at the moment. The ones I listed though are ones that I'd always want to take with me if I knew I'd be wanting to listen to some good tunes.

Oh, and can't forget the really oldie but goodies a bit of Beethoven and Rachmaninoff as well. :)

I listen to quite a few older bands & artists, mainly influenced by my parents,
    here are a few

    The Beatles
    The Monkees
    Brian Ferry & Roxy Music
    Simon & Garfunkle
    David Bowie
    The Sex Pistols
    Pink Floyd
    Bay City Rollers
    Beach Boys
    The Eagles’
    ELO
    Fleetwood Mac
    The Police
    The Kinks
    T-rex
    10cc

Dad was more of a 70’s man, he was in to punk for a while but liked most stuff & mum was a 60’s chick & listened to a lot of motown which I just love.

I also like most 80’s stuff, having two older sisters one in their late 20’s & one in early 30’s were always playing music when I was a kid. They would always make me listen to all their stuff like Michael Jackson, Bros, U2, Billy Joel, New Kids on the Block & most early dance music. They kept most of their music video’s & chart tapes which were passed down to me & I listened to as I got a bit older.

My sisters got me in to the madchester & acid house stuff in the late 80’s early 90’s listening to bands like James, Happy Mondays, New Order & The Stone Roses. And then on to Britpop with bands like Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Suede, Ocean Colour Scean, Super Grass, The Verve, Manic Street Preachers & Stereophonics. This influenced my music choice of the now listening to bands such as Coldplay, Keane, Kaiser Chiefs, Travis & the Artic Monkeys. I listen to a lot of dance stuff too, a lot of the old stuff from the acid house era & the 90’s stuff like hard house but I’m not overly keen on today’s dance music.
