University is too damn expensive, the average student here graduates with 15K (30,000 US$) in debt, that's just ridiculous!
i agree I'm back at the same school i went to my first two years taking a forgein language and I am 25 now. It is fun and there are people my age but it is not nearly as fun as when I was younger.
Can't you act, Krystin? You could be a performer... you could travel the world. Now if that isn't realistic, I don't know what is. I'm sure you'll be fine. You're smart and creative, not the kind of person who fails at life. I still have no good idea about what I want to do. I find myself planning on trying to get a job at Microsoft soon just because I hear that they pay well. I guess it doesn't really matter what I do as long as I'm self-sufficient, off the street, and enjoying at least some aspects of my life. Right now, I just want some kind of security--I want to know that I'll be okay. That's all I have the balls to expect from life.
Acting...wow. It's probably worse of a career than writing. And that whole..."Lose 10 pounds immediately and you've got the gig" thing just doesn't sit well with me. I like theater, but I know for a fact that I'd end up hating it if I had to make money off of it. There's a guy around here who lives on a sailboat and does wedding photos for income. He's a Hemingway type. I love him.
I knew a guy who was living on a houseboat. I used to chill with him sometimes. He was a professional wakeboarder (Virginia is the wakeboarding mecca) and surfer and he lived off of surfing endorsements and worked at a bar for extra income whenever he needed it. Sometimes he'd sell extra gear and things that companies gave him... haha. He lives in the next county over from me, now.
Schools are expensive to run. It's a dumb idea for society to invest so little in human capital, but it isn't amoral per se.
If people put as much money into healthcare and education in this country as they did into pseudodefensism... Not that we aren't better off than alot of countries, but you know... --what the fuck?! sometimes... Oh well, in Fearless Leader's case, some people bite off more than they can chew... Not my problem. Either way... In the words of my dad's German friend who was a software engineer that worked with him at Siemens-Infinion Simiconductors (they made waferboards and things for hewlett packard)... "In Munich, drive BMW and get free university... here, drive Golf and acquire debt."
Most school systems here in the states can each get up to $120,000 in grants for piss tests, alone... Now if we could re-route it into health, education, and actual defense programs, instead of pseudodefense/pseudooffense and putting ground forces on bases in every crack and crevice on the planet... And if there wasn't all this excess spending on the Middle East, hypothetically, I guess that would mean that we could've had a good trillion to play with (since we already did) and we'd have all of that plus tax cuts and an okay surplus built up by the Clinton administration. I don't know. It's just a hunch.
I bet each school spends much more on wasted education on people who drop out because they smoke too much weed than that $120,000 spent on testing piss.
I often wonder where all the tax money goes to in Britain. Coz when you think about it everything is pretty shit. Public healthcare is shit. Public transportation is shit (trains stop working when a few snowflakes fall from the sky to the rails or when it's hot/rainy/windy/whatever). City councils get a shitload of tax payers' money and what are they..? Shit.
