I was just wondering how old you have to be to buy pot and the such in Amsterdam. Me and my friend were thinking about going once we graduate but he's a year younger than me. I've heard both 18 and 19 and just want to get it straight.

not anymore. they will check IDs now. there's way too much gov't pressure and they will close your shoppe now if you're caught selling to underagers.

many of the shoppes now have signs that say "18 with ID"

Times they are a changin'... For the worse to boot.

Am I mistaken in thinking the drinking age is "16" in The Netherlands?

WTF is up with alcohol being more socially "acceptable" than reefer?!!

Never did understand that one. Especially coming from and living in the US. It must have something to do with the cash flow of the "wealthy and prominent". God knows they love their booze.

    I digress...

yep, as I said a few posts ago, things have definitely changed in Holland.

I think you can drink at 16 (in most European countries!!)

but, remember, as of april1, you can't buy any beer in a coffee shoppe!

oh, the horror of it all.

    As in...

Which Coffeeshops that currently sell alcohol and weed are going to be saying goodbye to which substance come April 01st?

Looks like we'll all have to wait until sometime around April 01st to find out.

Unless some locals come through with the verdict in the meantime...

    Locals?

all coffee shoppes sell weed and hash (and some sell space cake)

ALL COFFEE SHOPPES WILL NO LONGER SELL ALCOHOL. all of them. it's over, as of 4-1, you can no longer enjoy a beer in a CS with your smoke.

According to a report by itsmymagicallife, CS Bel Mondo in the Nieuwmarkt chose to stop selling weed in favor of alcohol. In addition they will not allow pot smoking in their "new" establishment.

From the news I've heard many shops such as Nes Cafe & Rookies which currently sell both alcohol and weed/hash will simply keep their CS license and continue to sell weed/hash while opening up new properties to sell booze. And I'm thinking those booze establishments will be smoker friendly.

It's still up to the owners of the shops to choose their preference to my knowledge.

    Just my 3 euro cents...

In my initial question on which shops will go which way, I was referring to specifically "which" shops and "which" way and seeking advice from anyone who has confirmed information to that effect.

Appreciate your input nonetheless though Bongish.

as I understood it when I was there, and I asked several CS employees:

if you sell booze you will not be able to sell weed.
As for smoking it in a "bar", that may be true, and I hope for all our sakes IT IS!!

    cheers!

Yeah. It's true. And I agree...

Excalibur and The Waterhole both quit selling weed a few years back and are still more than happy to sell you a brew and allow you to roll up in their establishments.

Will be interesting to see how it all goes down come April Fool's Day.

    How appropriate.

well, that news is comforting. I was in a few pubs where smoking weed was no allowed. It is very reasuring to know that there *hopefully* will be weed friendly places.

I thought perhaps this was a government regulation prohibiting grass/alcohol under any circumstances. Glad to know I was misinformed!

yeah---April FOOLs day---bunch of fool motherfuckers.
