I am so frustrated. I have been on a serious diet since November. I am on weight watchers, I eat whole foods, mostly fruits and veggies, no snacks. I cook every meal, I take extra care in making things healthy. I exersize alot, I actually burn 600 or over calories a day (as of this month trying to get my damn weight to move, before then I would do daily activity usually burning 300 some odd cals.). No matter what I can not lose a pound. In fact, I gained slightly. I became "overweight" as of this summer. I am so depressed that I can't change it. I am trying so hard and I have no idea why this is happening. If it matters to know I am 180 pounds and 5'1. I just want to be able to fit into my old clothes and feel good in my body. What am I doing wrong!? Does anyone have any advice? I am so upset over this I'll do just about anything to lose this weight (well healthy reasonable things). I know I haven't been on the diet for long but I've actually been trying since my daughter was born 10 months ago. I've only started getting serious about it when it wouldn't come off and I was gaining. I've dieted after each of my children before. On those diets I had success in a resonable amount of time, a couple pounds every week to 2 weeks or so. I don't understand why this time isn't working.
well i have a few answers that may or may not help i hope you dont take these too personally. first of all you just had a child not too long ago so your hormones are still out of whack and having your hormones out of whack doesnt help. secondly having your hormones out of whack makes you emotional and if your trying to lose alot of weight being too stressed or too tired or even the slightest bit negative doenst help with you lose weight. long story short........ our emotions are the key element to our subconcious and our subconcious pretty much decides who we are physically and emotionally. example if you think negative thoughts about yourself after a while those negative thoughts will become true because your subconcious will make them true. so if you think good thoughts whether in your mind or aoutloud they will become true. well back to the subject. If you are on a diet you need to do an entire life change and be dedicated to do so. if you are only burning 600 calories a day that means you only intake 600 calories a day. so for you to really see any type of result you need to burn what you take in. you should do some exercises that involve your children so that you could exercise more often to see any type of result. also to help you lose weight a bit quicker when you do cardio workout you want to keep your heart rate DOWN so do slow waling or or slow reps when you lift weights you want to feel the flex of the muscle and not the burn. and dont outdo yourself cuz that will just mean your body will be sore and need a day or two to heal. i dont know much about weight watchers but i know that its a calorie counting diet correct??????????????? dont count your calories to lose weight it wont help. what you need to do is eat 6 healthy SMALL meals a day. and make sure to have lots of protein to help you feel full and build muscle and heal. and drink lots of water as well when you feel your tummy growling try drinking water instead that is one way our body is telling us that we are dehydrated and we need to rehydrate. and try not to eat past 7 or 730 at night cuz that food will just sit in your tummy all night and not even digest. if you feel the need to eat chew on some ice or flavored ice. I could inly imagine the stress and emotional rollercoaster you are on raising three kids and ( im taking a shot in the dark) being a stay at home mom. i can completely relate to your feelings and situation. i was (still am) in a similar emotional state. i felt depressed and unhappy cuz i couldnt lose the weight but finally after some hard work and lots of patience and time to myself where i could just reflect and think i had lost 25 lbs of baby fat and i was happy with that. my son was 15 months when i hit the big 25 lb mark and now im about to have another child and i have learned through my indulgence with my first pregnancy to not eat so much and to curb my cravings and to walk as much as possible. i hope that i have helped you in some way and if i in any way offended you i am sorry. good luck and blessings
Stop counting calories and count your cardio activities? I know how hard it is. Are you by any chance on the pill? That small pill really messes your weight up. Hang in there woman.
How many calories do you take in? You are burning a lot of calories in a day so you need to eat enough to compensate. If you are not eating enough your body goes into starvation mode and it holds onto the weight. Also don't eat unless you have more than three hours before you go to sleep. It is a myth about the eating past 7:30... I was told this by a couple of friends of mine who are nutritionists. If you want I can ask them for some advice for you.
Hi, Im new here and I kinda feel like I'm butting in but I just wanted to add that when you are losing weight you hit what are called plateaus. (i think i spelled that right) usually there is nothing you can do to get past these. it's your body's way of saying im happy right here for now. plateaus can last 3 months, sometimes a year. just whatever you do keep up the healthy habits and drink tons of water. take care
I am and have been completely dedicated to losing weight, I changed our whole lifestyle. I've only been on weight watchers for 3 months, a diet for 9-10 months. As for the exersize with the kids thing, I do that all day long, I only know of the 600 calories I burn based on cardio I do at the gym. I also do free weights(alot of reps with small weights). I exersize on average 1-2 hrs a day (everyday) at the gym and play with the kids all day. I work at a bakery a couple days a week, I never eat the food. I have a very happy positive outlook. My husband is very supportive and at home all day until March when he does out of the home work again(winter is office work). As a family we now cook meals together, go to the park, he exersizes with me and has changed his whole routine as well (he is a healthy weight though and has even lost 5 pounds). Everytime something doesn't work I try something new. Weight watchers is not really a calorie counting diet. It is a diet based on your current weight, they give you a certain amount of healthy points, every food has a point value. you eat 6 small meals a day, the healthier you eat the more foods a day you can eat. I usually don't even use all my points(because I eat mainly veggies which have none to small point values). Exersize earns you extra points. You also have to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, at least 2-3 servings of dairy, at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies and take a multi-vitamin. I drink a gallon of water a day and don't eat after 6 because I'm usually not hungry. I never deprive myself of food, if I'm hungry I eat a salad, an apple, something healthy rather than starve. I am never hungry. A healthy weight for me I noticed is around 150-145. Thats all I want to weigh. As for a plateau... I never hit one, I lost 3 pounds total and only started working out at the gym since Novemeber(because what I was doing wasn't working). Before hand I was doing at home things like yoga, jogging, free weights... all stuff that has helped me shed 60 pounds in the past. Someone also mentioned something about birth control... I am starting to think maybe this may be the key. I only started really having a hard time with this since then. I have a IUD. I am not sure if it causes weight issues though. Thyroid diseases run in my family, I had it checked over the summer and they claimed they saw nothing as of yet. Since then I've found out that doctor is very incompietent. I am looking somewhere else to get it checked now but I'm starting to believe that may be the issue. I'm really hoping not but if it is, it can be medicated and controlled. The strange thing is I don't feel healthy. I eat well, exersize a lot and try to stay positive but I still can't run a mile to save my life, lol. I don't know how to explain it other than that. I think I need to find a specialist because I know I'm doing this diet thing the correct way and I only seem to gain or lose a pound then gain again. whew, that was long though. Thanks for your replies guys. I was so frustrated when I first wrote that and I think I'm feeling a little better now.
It has taken me four years t get back to a weight I was happy and comfortable in my skin with, so you are lucky you have done it before and you will be able to do it again. Keep on exercising and watching what you eat (I don't really get into calorie counting but I do know portion size after breastfeeding was something I have only just realised was an issue). You look gorgeous in the avatar pic so methinks maybe you are worrying about a little something not a big something. If you ever want to see the definition of sexy women in real life check out some of the singers for "Basement Jaxx" They are not small by any stretch of the imagination but are probably the sexiest girls I have ever seen!
I don't know if this will help, but when I did weight watchers I was told to make sure I ate all of my points, and if you still don't lose weight you're supposed to eat all your exercise points you earn too, maybe you just aren't eating enough. When I was on weight watchers I was very surprised at how much I was eating while still losing weight.
This may sound extreme but I have been eating only raw foods for about a week now and I am amazed at how quickly it is coming off. Before I was eating all healthy foods, running almost everyday and I was losing weight, but way too slowly for my preference. I've lost an entire pants size in 6 days. I feel like I am in a dream. It's just too good to be true. It was hard the first few days but now I am hooked.
^ but is it sustainable because as far as I understand you have to be eating like you are gonna eat forever otherwise it is just comes right back on.
Hi There, I know how your feeling and how frustrating it is! It has taken me a year of nothing btu frustration & feeling crap about my weight, then all of a sudden i lost 2 stone. I've found the key to loosing weight for me, im not saying it will be the same for you is to eat little and often. Eat 5 fruit & veg per day, plenty of water. Walk places instead of bus/car etc. For my tummy & bum I started to make an concious effort to tense my tummy muscles when walking, its hard and takes alot of concentration (for me anyway!) but it worked for me. I also started to do 'bum clenches' whilst lay in bed, that helped too. Good luck & hang in there, keep your chin up! x
Hi I know this was already brought up but it sounds to me like it could very well be hypothyroidism? I had the same problem after my second baby was born ate right, exercised and still couldn't lose any baby weight, I actually put on more weight and felt terrible! It took two doctors and several months before they finally diagnosed me with underactive thyroid. It also runs in my family too. I would change doctors and have your blood checked. Good Luck!!
yeppers. Like I said I feel fantastic from it so I never want to go back to eating processed or cooked food again.
I was going to ask about hypothyroidism too. Many womyn have their thyroid messed up with a single pregnancy, you've had three in a short period of time. See a good doctor, who will take you seriously, and do all four of the thyroid tests. Just doing one won't tell him anything, And, if you are still breastfeeding, whether you are overweight or not, 600 Cals a day won't be enough to keep your supply up. There is a good book, which works well with Weight Watchers called "Eat Well, Lose Weight While Breastfeeding" which addresses special concerns nursing mothers have about their weight. Also, dairy products often wreak havoc with your ability to use insulin properly. Also, many people are allergic to it, and the symptoms can vary greatly from person to person. Your symptom may well be carrying weight you don't need. Dairy has NO place in the diet of a human. I've seen people drops pounds, even when their diets didn't work, by staying on their current program and cutting the dairy 100%. Don't eat what you don't need, and you do NOT need the milk of a cow. Other than this, Weight Watchers does have a good program.
Side Effects back to top Both the ParaGard and the Mirena IUDs can cause longer, heavier, and more painful menstrual periods, but this is much less common with the Mirena. The increased blood flow may cause anemia. Spotting may occur without serious cause or as a sign of infection. The Mirena IUD can cause ovarian cysts. Some women using the Mirena stop bleeding altogether. Usually their menstrual periods return when the IUD is removed. Mirena can cause weight gain, headaches, increased blood pressure, acne, depression, and decrease in sex drive. http://www.fwhc.org/birth-control/iudinfo.htm http://www.steadyhealth.com/mirena_iud_weight_gain_t59935.html That site is a forum type deal by women that experienced weight gain with an IUD no matter how much they exercised. Perhaps it could be your IUD.
Welcome to my world. Unfortunately, I didn't have hypothyroidism so apparently my body just sucks. I'm about the same as you, 5'0" and about 180 pounds. You shouldn't cut your diet SO much, and you should probably snack on things like apples or bananas or carrots. If you eat in a way that you can't stick to for the rest of your life, you'll gain the weight right back after you lose your diet eating. Are you on any medication? Some medications make it really hard to lose weight, like some of my mood stabalizers/anti-depressants.
