It's from the skin stretching and/or hormones. Sometimes it goes away, sometimes it stays. With my first, I scratched myself 'til I bled, even in my sleep. I had to put socks on my hands to keep myself from doing that. Sometimes, you can suddenly become sensitive to a soap or detergent that never bothered you before. (Try using a hypo-allergenic detergent, like All Free and Clear, and soap, like Pear's or Nuetrogena) Calendula cream seems to help some ladies. Soaking in a cool tub with a cup of baking soda helps some. Dust with corn starch if you get itchy when you're sweaty. With my youngest, I swore I had scabiesor something, but it was nothing but pregnancy. Hope something helps...
Try not to scratch! Its the worst thing you can do! its makes the strech marks bigger! I had that itchy problem with my first my second wasnt as bad! I had to use EVERYTHING on my tummy to sto it! Vitiman E was the best as well anything that was jam packed with moisterizers! Good Luck!
is the itching from your stretchmarks? or do you have pupps? Brighid gave you some really good ideas, i hope you can find something that helps. ps, i used cocoa butter on my stretchmarks and i still got zillions of them, but now they're all silvery and faded and beautiful.
One of my friends had what she and her midwife called a "pregnancy rash". her midwife suggested not taking her prenatal vitamins anymore to see if that would help, because your kidneys have a lot to do with your skin health, and prenantals can put a lot of strain on your kidneys. it cleared up within days for my friend, but i guess i would check with your midwife/doctor first to be safe.
My OB (one of my favortite guys in the world) said that because your liver is detoxing for you and the baby, it is under stress, and this can also add to the itching. This is NOT a pathological problem, but can be terribly irritating! Try to stay cool, drink lots of fluids and moisturize.
Vitamin E lotion is supposed to be really good... I was over weight when I got pregnant and lost about 45 to 50 pounds so I never had the itching... and no one even knew I was pregnant through the whole pregnancy.... Sounds like it would about drive you crazy...
