Great book, Puts a very human face on a nation currently being demonized by the ignoranace of politics. Also has powerful introspective twists regarding human nature, friendship and integrity, all put together in a very readable book.
read it for english last year, didnt really like it. I couldnt believe that the main character would treat his friend like shit, which really made me not like it.
i also read it for english. I found it slow but really powerful. made me want to fly some kites. Amir is a weeny for treating hassen like he does. but thats life. ever good character has his flaws, look at hurkules he went temperarily insane and killed his wife and child but then to redeem himself he compleated 12 labors. Amir is the same he was an ass to his friend but saving his son (sorab) was kind of like him redeeming himself. i was really sad at baba and amirs relationship in kubal how baba didnt really like him. it almost reminds me of me and my dad. my brothers the (favorite). my favorite chapters were around ch 11-13 were amir falls in love at the flea market. i think i might be a romantic.
umm he let his friend/half brother get raped which also led him to them moving away. If they hadnt have moved away hassen probably would have gone with them to america and would still be alive. Its sad that im getting worked up over a fictional book like this lol.
The saddest part of the whole book is that while this particular story is fiction, the real life of many people living there is a never ending tragedy. Just the glimpse into such a world is hard to take...what would it be like to live there?
