New to it, got the real thing a while back and loved it. I have a very non addictive personality so I am not too worried there, but aware of it.

So other than drinking tea, can you smoke the dried poppies? If so, how to prepare it....

    Thanks

You can smoke anything that you can fit in a pipe, but I think you mean, will it get you high? No.

Grind up the poppy pods into a powder. Do an alcohol extraction(ethanal or isopropal). Filter, let alcohol evaporate. This will leave you with a dark brown to black opium. This is called extract opium which is less potent than lanced opium but is inexpensive to make and it beats smoking that opium insense or that red rock BS.

Reading that description of the extraction was like listening to Segovia play Bach's BMV 1006a Prelude, at twice the speed, on a trupmet.

theoretically you chould smoke crushed poppy pods, but i've tried it and let me tell you i can't even smoke a quarter of a pod. they're a lot more material to smoke than you'd think, the opium is by NO means concentrated in them, they taste terrible and the smoke is really harsh. i couldnt get a quarter of the way through one pod before i couldnt take anymore, and i got no buzz.

in theory though, if you had the determination to stick through it and keep on smoking, you would eventually get high.

hey hows the weather in the keys right now? i wish i could move to key west....or at least nearby...i went last spring and fell in love with it! i've been to a lot of cool places, but nowhere was as awesome as key west. too bad its expensive...plus i'm a sucker for booze and cigars, i'd run out of money quickly.

but moving south will always be the dream...right now im recovering from almost throwing out my back shoveling through many inches of snow in the driveway :(

depending on where you live, what your resources are like, you can grow your own. poppies are supposed to be quite easy to grow. use your pods for tea but use the seeds inside to plant. they can be grown indoors or out. if you dont have much privacy outdoors, you should grow them indoors. that way as they're getting ready you can harvest the raw opium multiple times in the life of a single plant.

might i suggest if you do grow and maintain a small, personal supply of smokable opium....maybe get a kiseru to smoke it out of? :) traditionally used as an all around pipe before any drugs were illegal in japan...now just used for tobacco or, among the few that smoke it, cannabis, the kiseru used to often be used with opium, too. though its not as specialized as a proper opium den style pipe, it would just be a cool thing to have :p

How about just slowly eating the pods instead of making teas? Same effect or does the hot water do something?

Its not the water, the heat of the water softens the dried crushed up pod matter, and you add an acidic juice to seperate the dried latex from the mush :) strain, and drink!
