okay, so i just recently started nuvaring about 2 weeks ago...its low dose and supposedly has light side effects, but in 2 weeks, ive gained 5 pouds, but it looks more like 7 or 8...im been extremly tired and moody. I have also notcied some minor symptoms of depression... they say this is normal for the first 3 months and then it levels out, is anyone else using nuvaring that knows if this is true or not?

Have you been on hormonal birth control before?
Because those are all pretty common to all forms of hormone-based birth control, nuvaring is no exception to the effects that hte pill and the patch have.

I switched to nuvaring from a birthcontrol pill. I didn't notice any different symptoms -- no weight gain, no nothing different, except the nuvaring caused a LOT more vaginal discharge than normal (which apparently is pretty common).

BUT you're still putting synthetic hormones into your body. Different types and different sources react differently with each person's individual body chemistry. Anyway, so it may just be that the particular hormones in the nuvaring do not agree with you.

If you're getting depression, I'd suggest going ahead and calling your doc now, otherwise it might be worth giving it a couple of months to see if you adjust. Either way, if you decide to switch, tell your doctor the exact symptoms you've been having -- that will help your doc guess which pill might work better for you (which pill doesn't normally cause those symptoms, though you won't know till you try it if it causes other symptoms!).

Not to be rude, but just out of curiosity in relation to another thread here ("low estrogen birth control"), which linked to an article dicussing the testing and lower efficacy of low dose hormones... Are your sister and her step-sister overweight or are they fit-and-slim 20-somethings? The article mentions that young, fit, slim women are used to test birth control, and failure rates are higher among overweight women than among slim women, so I'm curious whether that's a factor in your case... Especially since a lot of pill failures can be blamed on inconsistent use, but I'm not sure how you could mess up with the ring unless you take it out for some reason and forget to put it back in for a while!

Depression is never "nornal." A drug which causes it can't be good for you. Like other posters have said, you are taking hormonal birth control, so you will have many of the same symptoms.

I hope you feel better soon.

Has anyone noticed a low sex drive from nuva ring? My girlfriend was on the patch and then switched to the ring and since the switch her sex drive seems to have died. Has anyone else experienced this? Just curious if this may be causing it.
