Hey, I never would've met my partner if he didn't crochet! We met at a trade circle in a rainbow gathering, and I had a kitten who I was traveling w/ at the time. Ian was just chillin on his blanket, making hats, and I'd lost all my yarn and hooks while OTR. When I mentioned that I'd lost them, and I missed crocheting, he gave me a hook and a ball and invited me to kick back and crochet with him for a while. Been together ever since. :)

hummblebee, that's such a sweet story! let me guess, ever since you were, shall we say, tightly knit? bad yarn pun? ok, never mind. there's a reason why i don't do comedy for a livin'.

I emailed my brother the link, because he laughed at me when I said I'd teach him how to knit, but he emailed me back with his usual machismo, which is alright...

I wish I could get mine into any kind of craft. I think he would be happier if he was more artistic. Mostly he just plays on the computer or reads. Reading is good, but not much of an outlet. :)

My son watches me knit and crochet...he's interested in learning as well, although I don't know how dedicated he'll be. He like instant gratification :D

well, ya never knwo unless you try...

When I was younger, I'd get frustrated with knitting because it took so long, which is why I abandoned it for like 15 years. When I took it up again as an adult, it became easier, and once I completed my first craft I was hooked.

But my hubby's much like yours, sweetersappe... always either on the computer or working on the car.

I taught my best bud to crochet and he makes the most amazing hats now! My hubby is even interested in learning after seeing my friends hats!

Hooray for the men! Did you know that crochet and knitting were originally Male crafts. Yeah. Read about their history. It was the woman's place to spin the yarn but a man's to crochet or knit it up. The traditional Irish fisherman's sweater is 'traditionally" done up by a Man! They are knit from wool that has only had the dirt and junk removed from it but none of the lanolin washed out or as little as possible in order to spin it. Then it is knit up extra large and then washed in HOT water to shrink it and it is blocked to fit the particular man who will wear it. It then becomes semi-felted and will repel both wind and rain and the bitter Irish winter cold.

I even have met a man who Tats lace. I know because I taught him. He already knit and crocheted. He saw me tatting and asked what he was doing wrong. He was a big man with big beefy hands. It was so cool to see him wield a tiny tatting shuttle and fine thread. His wife just beamed at him. Maybe he decorated her undies for her.

Men assert your heritage and take up your hooks, needles and shuttles and craft away! It is a Manly thing to do.

    Peace, Cricket

*wide grin* One of the loves (Fenikkusu), recently told me that while in school, he and some friends made a bet on who would stay in a crochet class the longest. They dropped after the first week, and he stayed for the whole class and loved it. It's been some time, but he wants me to help him brush up so he can start again.

Cricket: Damn right it's the manly thing to do. My crocheting sweetie is a US Marine! :)
