What do you think about overpopulation , do you think we need a one child policy in the uk like china , Tony Blair has said that Britain doesn’t have a population policy do you think it should have . At what sort of numbers do you think we should look at limiting our population or consumption Do you think India or Africa should follow china’s example , do you think we should stop sending retroviral HIV drugs to africa to counteract the high birth rate . Or should we ban IVF treatment as a means of limiting growth in population in a resource/energy short world ?
Cor can you imagine it a nation of spoilt brats. Sorry but most only children I've come across seem to suffer a lack of due regard for others, esceptions excluded obviously. I believe that nature is perfectly capable of dealing with population control itself, observe global warming as an example. We also have our own inherent population controls with our desires to have wars, get too many and something will become short of supply and we'll kill each other for it. You shouldn't deny a person the right to life, if you want to stop medication to one country then you should suggest the dismantling if the whole health system for everybody, or perhaps why not just wipe out the human race, and leave the planet to the cuddly bunnies. I also find suggestions of let the black/brown man die deeply offensive as rascist fascist ideas.
Well the reason for this post was another post on another forum by someone else I read. I think he was saying we should stop hiv treatment to africa because of the high birthrate there but you have a point I didnt think of that we could just stop all medical treatment. And is having wars or shortages the most humane way of dealing with population ? Would you say this was a good idea for pet cats to just let them breed until they exhaust the food supply and then start killing and eating each other
First of all every existing life should be cared for and saved, no matter what race, country, continent, whatever... Secondly, yes, there is a population problem here in Britain. Especially as we consume so bloody much and insist on making such a heavy imprint on this world However, the one child rule would not work. First of all, i believe some womens destiny truly is to make children, to raise them, for the good of us...and that means more than one. While other women have a different mision. Secondly, pregnancy is a difficult thing to control. There will always be new babies that slip into the second child category (even with obligatory sterilisation(which would cost a fortune) or whatever). What if the mother does not believe in abortion? Does the baby get dumped? Put into care? Killed? What exactly?... So that wouldnt work. I really just think people need to start seriously THINKING logically and rationally wth the whole world in mind before they have sprogs. People are starting to have kids so young and are having lots and lots of them, regardless of whether or not they are educated or caring etc...meanwhile, millions starve and die, adandoned, hungry, motherless... It will just take thought i think
I see no problem with the control of animals, some do I understand, but thats a different topic, and so to compare that with human control I find illogical. I don't believe nature is designed to be humane, it will do what it will without regard for anything. The purpose of the planet is undefineable other than whatever is fittest will survive, not really sure where consideration of other matters comes from, other than our bent for the spiritual. Nature cares not why actualy should we ?
There is slight overpopulation in the UK, but I don't think any human has the right to decide who lives and who dies. I don't think everyone has a duty to preserve human life, just not have negative impact on it. Those who do strive to make humans lives better I hold so much respect for, and I try myself to help people. Not for some greater good, but it makes me happy seeing others happy. So what can we do to prevent over population in the UK? I think a limit on children is a bad idea. If you did that, then the UK may have an even greater aging population. We do have a large number of imergrants, but I would be hesitant to say no to people wanting to live where they choose. My post seems slightly pointless...but I did want to add a little something. A friend of mine from the Netherlands and I were talking about squaters (sp?) rights, and how if a house is empty there, then people have the right to live there. I don't like second homes, why can't people use tempory accomadation such as caravans, tents, or even sleep under the stars? the second homes don't encourage a community atmosphere, and cause house prices to rise in areas which are beautiful yet remote. Increase tax on these homes, and increase squatters rights
There is a slight over population problem in the UK, however it is not as simple as people think. Controlling the birth rate is not going to solve the problem. Actually in the UK we have a problem with people not having enough kids. If you look at the number of children for every woman in the UK you are getting a number that is close to what a one child per family policy would bring. To be honest it would do more harm than good to the British economy. The over population problem we have exists in the older generation. This means that the economy would collapse as more people would be retiring over the coming years with fewer people paying taxes and putting money into the system. In fact we need people to have more babies to make the system work. It is ironic that the economy relies on people working and building their careers and at the same time needs people to have babies to help drive it. Matt
While this is true economically - we need more young taxpayers to support our aging baby-boom generation - what happens when those young people in turn become pensioners? It would lead to the need for a continual exponential increase in population, so encouraging population growth is no long term solution. I don't think we have too much of a population problem in this country - we are increasing at a rate of 0.28% (source) per year, the European Union as a whole has a population growth rate of 0.15%. Other countries in the developing world have much higher rates of population growth, African countries in particular are heading for population crisis at current rates of growth... Here's a list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_population_growth_rate
