I have some really old, funky, kind of gross wool clogs. I have never washed them. I probably should, but I don't know how to either. :(

I'd suggest you set them out in the sunshine instead of washing them with water. I have some Dansko shoes my husband bought for my birthday last year, and have only worn them twice. They make my feet hurt. :( But I can't bear to part with them, as they cost a small fortune.

i'm guessing they are felted wool? use a VERY gentle detergent, that would include shampoo as wool and hair are both protiens (so is silk) in cold water, stuff the shoe with newspaper to hold the shape and dry out of direct heat.

what about that wool wash people use on wool diaper covers? Methinks it is Euclean? Or something along those lines.

I have a pair of brown ones with the closed back. I just put baking soda and a lemon wedge in 2 baggies, left them open and put one in each shoe and then covered them up with a towel and left them for a couple days, I do the same thing with my uggs, it works really well.
Don't wash them, you'll ruin them

agreed ~ Febreeze antibacterial would work best.... something that not just gets rid of the stink, but antibacterial helps eliminate what makes the stink.

    but febreeze stinks!

have you tried stuffing them with dry newspaper? often it absorbs a considerable amount of odor.
