I never smoke alone... Is anybody else like that? I always invite a friend along, and we either match, or smoke mine. Then when I'm out, I have a friend I can go to, and he/she'll smoke with me, and I don't have to buy any. I always break even with this, and I like it.

Is there anybody else that absolutely has someone around to smoke with when they smoke? Just wondering.

I like smoking alone. When I smoke with people I get too distracted and I can't completely zone out listening to music like I can alone. I'm free to do whatever I want...and no worries of someone around me ruining my high.

I do like smoking with people though, especially good friends. For me, when I'm with people it's more of a stupid-non-stop-laughing-just-having-a-great-time high. When I'm alone, it's more introspective and relaxing.

That's the thing... The people I smoke with are all philosophers, like me. I tend to think towards the abstract when I'm stoned... Kind of introspective. I tend to analize things in metaphorical sense, talk about alternate views of reality, discuss theories, postulations, and new ideas.

I don't know, it seems less fulfilling to sit alone, thinking these grand thoughts, and unable to express them to a reactive audience.

I tend to absorb myself in comforts, drinking canabis/green tea, enjoying a conversation fit for the great philosophers of yore, filling myself with ideas from those around me, and enjoying free thought...

I dunno, I guess its kinda different around here than elsewhere...

I'd love to smoke with those kinds of people, I just can't seem to find them anywhere, especially living here. I'm sick of being around people that smoke to get fucked up and then talk about how fucked up they are. There's one person I know that I actually enjoy being stoned with and that's my cousin. I'm sure if I could find the right kind of people, I'd like smoking with them just as much as by myself :)

And I tend to write poetry/thoughts when I smoke alone, so I don't find it a waste.

Also, I'm not saying I don't enjoy the fun aspects of being stoned because they're great. I just dislike it when people focus their highs only on those feelings and don't delve any deeper.

    But, I'm done :)

I'm actually planning to use the money I get from selling books (I'm a writer, fiction novelist), and making a little colony in some out of the way, scenic retreat. Basically pay for food and housing for as many of those kind of people (philosophers, higher thinkers), whether they smoke or not, and encourage the spreading of their thoughts. I dunno, it's my dream. I'm hoping for about 20-30 people who STAY there, and another 20-40 who come by for vacations from the rest of the world. And, of course, there'd be smoke and shrooms (great for poets, theologists, and other types of free thinkers). I'd enjoy the company of that kind of person on a permanent basis.

That's an awesome plan, I hope you get it going some day :)

I've actually thought about joining a commune for a while that fits my interests, it'd be an amazing experience. What I think would be even better though is a sort of traveling commune. Living on the road...that's what I want to do.

Awesome. I'm actually hitting the road at the end of the corner. Taking off and seeing what it gets me. What's your AIM, or MSN? I'd love to talk to someone else who would like to do that! I'm alone in my journey right now, but hope to meet some other wanderers on the way...

Me either. It should be interesting...

In the end, I have nowhere to wind up, but numerous places to find myself...

jhan I'd love to help, if I could, with your idea. I only have a few friends, but when we get high, all we do is talk of various bits of philosophy, anarchy, freedoms, the world, and just let the shit flow from us. I have about 4-5 friends and when we get high its always the most fun and I feel like I've gained the most from smoking when I'm with them.

What you wanna do sounds like something out of Dharma Bums. Where all of a certain group have a house they can chill at and hang with buddies and whatnot. I plan on hitching out sometime soon, I've already trainhopped and let me tell you, not talking to a human for a couple days will do things to your psyche. Have fun man. Contact me on aim sometime (t4pyro) or myspace. http://www.myspace.com/mortes

Reading The Dharma Bums gave me a lot of new perspectives, it's by far my favorite Jack Kerouac book. That's cool that you've trainhopped...I'm not sure I'd ever have the courage to do that alone, let alone hitchhiking. It's a shame I have to be a girl and hear so many bad stories about how dangerous it'd be for me to hitchhike. If I had a friend with me though, there's no way I'd back out.

Jhan, your idea also reminds me of parts from the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. You should read that and the Dharma Bums if you haven't, they're both excellent books.

I used to toke alone 24/7 - but now I'm starting to avoid doing that and toking with friends only.
    I have my reasons.

I love smoking with other people. But I smoke alone alot. As long as I'm getting high, it doesn't really matter.

It's more about the state of mind (happiness, optimism) that smoking helps with for me, not the 'high' feeling itself. I don't really like the whole, "Dude, I'm so high!" "What?" "I dunno..." conversations anymore.

I dunno, I prefer to be intellectual, and I maintain my philosophical state of mind when I'm high, so the typical 'stoner' label doesn't apply to me, or my friends. I never smoke to sit on a couch and waste time. I always smoke, then do something with myself, intellectually or physically.

I always smoke alone. It's hard to groove in the presence of people.

    Hail the loners!

I actually find that having the right people around helps me groove better, and helps me think. Some of my best memories are of me and two friends going on a drive, smoking, and coming back to chill in a room, one of them was a dj, and listen to music and talk.

I know what you mean jhan, I really dislike smoking and doing nothing. becca, its my favourite kerouac book as well, the first one I've read. I've probably gone through it 5 or 6 times now and I have some of it memorized. It's the first thing that I read that "got me started" in terms of alternate lifestyles, deeper thinking, and opening my eyes to other people and their ideas.

I've talked with jhan a bit and we plan to hang sometime in the future. If you need someone to go on the road with, and I'm free, I'd be happy to accompany ya.
