Hello all - I'm staying for a while on the island of Phuket and was wondering if I'm going to have any luck finding anything to smoke. It seems that anyone I asked have said the government has been really cracking down and its been hard to find. Any help would be greatly appreciated. cc
theres lots of people from different countrys serving life sentences in thialand for possesing marijauana, alot of people didnt even know they had it. also, read the book 4,000 days by something warrens, Ill have to look back but its about a guy who went for 11 years in a prison in bangkok for heroin possesion. I hear most drugs are highly frowned upon there except apperantly opiums legal but Im not sure yo ud have to look at that fi rst.

It's not a good idea to visit third world countries that just had a military coup... Realize that the definition of legal in these cases usually involves how much the cop wants for a bribe. You could definately be fucked hardcore though...
In thailand as in similar backpacker destinations smoke is usually readily available. Weighing up the risks from who you score off, to where to smoke etc is your best bet, if it seems not worth the while then don't do it. I never went to Phuket but I am aware it's fairly touristy so the police are going to be a lot tighter than in other parts of the country. We had no trouble in the east but were not smoking loads and stayed in pretty rural areas. I'd advise as you're in Phuket that if you must score, try and score of other farangs, Israelis in particular seem to have a knack for knowing where to get weed and hash. I have heard the horror stories of people on the party islands being passed spliffs by thais with dreads only to have the cops jump on them two seconds later, ignoring the person who passed them the spliff. Be careful is all I'll say. If you're travelling southeast asia for a while and have a couple of months to kill I couldn't recommend Cambodia more. I much preferred it to Thailand and the mary is stupidly cheap. Like $5US for a 1/2lb cheap. The quality isn't always the best but it's easily available in every town over the counter and at that price you can't really complain. It's easy to find good quality as well but sometimes costs a little more. Have fun, I'm jealous...

Travel is what I do my friend. If you didn't read about it or see it on the news you would never know a coup took place here. The real ruler of the country is the king - not the PM. He looks out for the people here and when something starts to get out of line he takes care of it. The PM was ripping off the thai people and he had to leave. The people here were happy it happend and greatly respect the king for looking out for them. I am also very familiar with the bribing the cop routine having been to a few third world countries. It is pretty easy for them to take a 20 from you when they only make 200 a month. Just remember to not carry more $ than you need - but have enough to save your ass when needed. I understand the risk I take - I would hate to spend a few years in the "bankok hilton" but it sure would be nice to have a little smoke before watching the sunset on the beach in paradise. cc
