Well, let's see.....it's a big college town. If you don't like football or the Hokies, like me, football season will drive you insane. I've never been downtown, but I hear it's very cute has lots of cool stores. There's a river near there, the New River that you can go tubing down in the summer time, it's pretty fun. And....that's all I can think of at the moment!
hehe, if you're in downtown roanoke you'll see me. well, you'll see my significant other before you'll see me, he's a bit of an eye catcher, but still. i'm there.
I've been looking into Roanoke lately as a possible place to move to. I want somewhere peaceful, but not in the middle of nowhere. I want a wide variety of things to do without it being too busy. And I want nice cheap housing. I'm not so sure about the wide variety of things to do, (maybe someone could enlighten me), but the housing is inexpensive and the area looks very attractive. The thing that's probably going to hold me back is the lack of a good school. I checked out Roanoke college but it doesn't seem to offer much. So, to the people that live there, what is there to do? And is there any good center of education in the area?
Well, I've lived in Roanoke since I was 3 years old, so I'm kind of biased. You live anywhere that long and you are bound to get sick of it! Anyway, Roanoke is not bad, there's always something to do downtown and there's cool hippie places, too. As far as schools, I go to Virginia Western Community College, other schools that are nearby are Hollins and Radford, Roanoke College is the only one that is actually in Roanoke County and the one I go to. There is a College of Health Sciences and National Business College here, too. The cost of living depends on where in Roanoke you move to. Northwest and some parts of Southeast Roanoke are cheap, but bad parts of town. Good places in Roanoke are Southwest, Old Southwest, parts of Salem and Vinton, they might be more expensive but you might find some that are not. Anyway, if you need anymore info just let me know
check it out, roanoke folks, i am hoping someone can help me. next saturday (march 1) there is an AWESOME band from charlottesville playing at Martin's-- there is a whole crew headed down there for the night, and..well, short and sweet: i am looking for a place to run a couple tanks. any ideas/ i leave for langerado the following tuesday and am looking to pad my pockets with a little extra cash. i'm cheap and easy, and if anyone can provide a place or has an idea, there are balloons with your name written all over them.....
Hi I live in Roanoke. I am thinking of moving to Floyd maybe in the future. I am trying to find a silent retreat nearby..floyd would be nice as well as looking for hippie communes but I just dont know where to look! I love this site, the first I have seen where I can talk to like minded people...is great. If any of you do know of any places please let me know. you can contact me thru email as well... om7peace@yahoo.com. As far as roanoke goes...I think its ok but I really want to live further out away from the mainstream civilization.I also wish Roanoke had more spiritual places. Namaste
I live in Roanoke. I've been looking for fellow "hippies" to hang out with, perhaps go downtown or to a drum circle or just hang out and listen to music.
Live in Carroll County, and drove to work in Blacksburg at the hospital (pharmacist)..for about 2 years..If I could move again, it would be around Blacksburg.. Plenty to do, and close to anything you can think of. Yes, a college town, but traffic is much better now, that they have "finished" the by-pass. Later, Dave
