We have this discussion in class alot and I wanted to get a different perspective on this.

I'm a social work major and hopefully one day I want to become a clinical social worker in a mental health facility. The biggest conflict I am facing right now is how my own drug use comes into play when I am counseling other's about drug use. For example, if I'm counseling a kid who got arrested for marijuana possession, what am I suppose to say? I am reprimanding them in my professional life yet I am a marijuana advocate and user in my personal life. I don't want to be hypocritical but I also can't promote behaviors that can potential fuck up the kids life. Do I disclose person information about my own drug history or not? Or do I just straight up lie to them?

    Ahhhhh. I'm torn.

I never really thought of that. And I guess I can relate since I'm a psychology major trying to become a psychiatrist. What do you feel you should do? I think there's a fine line between business and personal life. You don't bring home your work, and don't bring your home life to work. Until it becomes legal I wouldn't disclose any personal details of your own drug use. Just say that you understand them and their choice, but that it's illegal.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. I feel that US Drug Laws are fucked, I feel drug education is ridiculous and unrealistic, I feel that if done responsibly, marijuana use isn't a problem for teenagers. But often if teenagers are on probation, they weren't acting responsibly. But other times they can be great, responsible kids and just be in the wrong place at the wrong time. So I guess things are just situational.
I know lawyers and theripists that are well known for their marijuana advocacy but even though I love the herb and believe it should be legalized, I don't know how comfortable I feel carrying that title with me.

Well you're an adult and you can choose for yourself what you want to smoke, be it legal or not. haha so it shouldn't make a difference when you're counseling a kid about it. Just be objective. Maybe the fact that you smoke could even help you relate to the kid and s/he will take you more seriously because you know what you're talking about. Make sure that the kid at least knows how to keep it from interfering with his/her life.

don't talk to the kid about how the WEED will fuck him up, cause it wont. Talk to the kid about how the LAWS ABOUT WEED will fuck him over if he smokes. And make sure to be high for at least one session so you can all have a laugh. :)
