so this is random (hint why it would be under this thread...) anyways! i have an oceanography exam today, on it its all sorts of into on the upkeep of a saltwater aquarium. I have searched the internet for hours and come up with NONE of the info i need (he gave us a review sheet)
    does anyone know these?:

why change 25% of ur water every month?
Why does the acidity level in ur aquarium reduce when u add calcium carbonate and What type of ion interaction happens?

Why does ocean water conduct more electricity than tap water? Explain.

Why is having a slighty alkaline pH value that is constant in the ocean important?

I just thought I'd post them, maybe i could get some help?
    MUCH APPRECIATED!!

The answers should be somewhere in your textbook or notes. It's not as though he can test you on things that were not taught in one form or another in class.

yeah, you would think so, but i lost my notes from the begining of the semester, and he is probably one of the spaciest teachers ive ever had...he never really taught, it was more lots of ntoes and very little explanation, and the text book doesnt have a unit on aquariums : /....buttttt i already took and i think i did okay so thanks : )

I don't know what the first questions asking.

Calcium Carbonate reacts with strong acids in the water, producing CO2.
    CaCO3 + 2HCl → CaCl2 + CO2 + H2O

It can also react to excess CO2 forming calcium bicarbonate.

    CaCO3 → CaO + CO2

Fun fact, this causes erosion, and is one of the principle ways underwater caverns are formed.

Water is more conductive in the ocean then in tap water because the salt in the ocean makes it more conductive.

Electricity cannot transfer without a conductive material.
Pure water (H20) would not conduct electricity.

There are a lot of reasons a constant PH value for the ocean is important. If the PH value changed by 1 either to become more alkaline or more acidic, most aquatic life would die, and most chemical interactions that happen in the oceans would change drasticaly.
