Anyone seen the movie Head with The Monkees? It was actually better than what I had expected.

I know you posted your message in April and now its december so you probably don't even care now but -- yeah Head is pretty good. To be honest, I'm quite fond of the film..The Movie Channel TMC has been playing it with increasing growth -- i think they like that movie more than i do, lol....when i was little i would watch it at least once a day (yeah i was that weird)....I really think that Head is much more trippy than Magical Mystery Tour and much more underrated (albeit its still twisted, MMT has somewhat of a plot--go on the MMT and all this freaky shit happens to you...Head has no obvious plot, but it is there if you look for it)....

    HEAD!

    Whats not to like?

Made the same summer as Easy Rider, one of my fave scenes is right after Peter hits the woman and the camera pans back to show the crew. Among the crew is Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper, Dennis is even wearing his Billy the Kid/Easy Rider fringe jacket!

I also really dig this film for the tunes. Contrary to popular opinion, some of the monkees music was their own, and I find it alot of fun and freaky to hear. Even the songs they didnt write were written by super songwriters like Diamond and Carol King.

Take the tune As We Go Along... from head - its got Ry Cooder on guitar, but most dont know its him. Makes the whole song listenable knowing who Im hearing there!

The songs on the movie were sung by voices other than what they were intended to be - in following the vein of switching everything around, like the end of the movie being the first scene. The soundtrack has some of the songs as sung by the voices intended, and its a neat change.

I really prefer the soundtrack version of "Can You Dig It". Mickey sings it in the movie, but its a Peter Tork composition, and he sings it much more eastern - its obviously his song.

.... And the same thing goes for Christmas!!!

i love all of the movie but my favorite scenes are probably the live version of Circle Sky and scenes shown with As We Go Along (I just love all the different places shot here, different environments)

thats so right on man, that sounds like something that I would do/have done :) when I was little I used to watch Head everyday when I got home from school, I knew every word to the script (does that make me a loser lol), and actually the first time I saw it on the movie The Movie Channel a couple of weeks ago, I was a lil rusty but I still knew quite a lot of it :)

It is so much fun. I love the dandruff scene, and can totally picture how baked they must have been when they decided to film it...good times...

well apparently alot of the writing sessions were the monkees, the writers, alot of pot, and a tape recoder. The monkees wanted writing credits because of that but they didn't give it to them.

the chick that's dancing in the scene is Toni Basil(sp?) - the "oh mickey, you're so fine" chick ;)

the Zappa cameo after that scene was great! "that song was pretty white..." :D
