Do you think the UK should be broken up into its constituent countries? Should the Act of Union be abandoned? Would Independence for Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, or even Cornwall, be harmful or beneficial to these countries or to an England left alone?

lol Britain is pissy and small enough as it is without being broken up. Why do the British like the idea of being separated and small and isolated so much? If you look at a globe youll see just what i mean. Theres a huge world out there. Brtis are generally cut off enough as it is (languages in schools are no longer compulsory before age 11 or after age 13 etc) I could go on but im dozy

Ya know, much as I'd love for Cornwall to claim independance I just don't know how well we'd survive...though even as I type this I consider the amount of farming and commercial fishing that goes on in Cornwall, not to mention our greatest export, tourism. To be honest I don't know. From a personal view I'd like it, and I'm sure a lot of others would, I just don't know the figures that'd suggest it's practical rather than simply a matter of feelings.

I'd imagine Cornwall turning into a Third World country on its own. Farming is heavily subsidised by the government as it is, and an agricultural based economy is not conducive to the high standards of living expected by service based economies....

Seriously detrimental to all parties concerned, can't see any benefits from disolution apart from bragging rights, but that wouldn't support anyone beyond a week.

    When was Cornwall independent ?

Ulstermen don't want independence, they would be stuck alone with all
    of those cathloics over there.

Many Cornish are proud of their perceived Celtic roots as separate to the Anglo-Saxon/Norman parts of England. If I recall, the Cornish do have their own language and some maintain that they are a nation in the ethnic sense. To be honest, it's almost certainly a lot more complex than many ethnic nationalists would have you believe, and the history of interbreeding and cultural makes these things somewhat suspect....

Aye Peace, the cornish language was resurrected I believe in the fifties, they also have the flag, white cross on black background.

The Gorseth Kernow was created to promote cornish celtic heritage and has the trappings of a Bardic asssembly, fancy dress and all. Similar to the other addended celtic nations they like to feel independant of the english (angles).
