i want info info for info to ocala gatherein all i can find is council stuff and thats over all ready im hitch hiking so i need to get my site rite ive hitched in to a so called site aty the indiana gathering i was depressed to find out it was the old council site help me
This comes from Arjay on his site:http://www.floridagathering.info/council.htm We use this council to figure out where the vibe is leaning as to where to gather, how to gather, and to do some planning. At councils past, people arrive on Friday night, discuss scouting and other plans, put boots to the dirt on Saturday, and discuss site options in council on Sunday. Past councils have consistently chosen a site on Sunday. However, since last year, we had to remove about FOUR TONS of trash (90% alcohol containers) left by early arrivals on February 14 (the alleged first day of the gathering), there has been talk of adding a second council the first weekend in February to reach consensus on site selection. I'm mentioning it on this site only because it would represent a major change in how we do Ocala and it's only appropriate that anyone with an opinion on the topic know with plenty of notice. It is quite possible that, due to long term flooding, we may need that extra time to find a place to gather
Location: Farles Prarrie. Seed Camp to start first week of Feb. please do not arrive too early as there is a 14 day limit within the NF that is beginning to be enforced. Holding Camp is currently at 65a south of Salt Springs, about 20 miles away, but some will move to another location TBD before moving onsite. The site has not been used for 7 years and has the results of many hurricanes with downed trees blocking many trails. There will be a good deal of work needed during seed camp to prepare the site. A permit (which I am not signing this year but about 20 others are) is expected for the gathering, as has happened for the last 5 years, with success ( in FL).
chainsaw, what? I'm bringing a bowsaw with a good sharp blade. A good bowsaw, combined with some good ol' fashioned elbow grease and an experienced sawyer, can cut as much wood as a chainsaw that is manned by the 'average' person. Unless someone is an experienced woodsman who knows how to properly sharpen a chainsaw in the field (ie: with a file by eye) then a handsaw is just as effective. Heck with all the sand in Ocala, the wood is dirty and will dull your chainsaw quickly. I aint trying to tell you what to do; you can bring whatever you want. However, if you were to fire up your chainsaw and cut a big ol' pile of wood, then some folks would think it was awesome and some folks would be pissed about having to listen to a chainsaw. Some folks can appreciate a huge pile of wood being cut up in a short amount of time with minimal effort and some folks just plain despise chainsaws at a gathering.
Woo! I am so excited about the Ocala gathering. I've only been to one gathering and it was two years ago! anyone near orlando going?
