Just a obsevation from this fall. I was pressed for time during the planting of the garlic beds this year. The biggest bed wasnt tilled tell the day of the planting.A hard frost happend about a week after the planting and it pushed up about a dozen cloves.they were perfectly pushed up and stood on end.(it was pretty cool). so i coverd them back up and mulched. Annyway i learnd my lesson, gotta till and prepare the beds well before planting peace
Hey Frog, You doin' OK? I seem to be getting going again. Is what you described frost or freeze heaving? I've heard of it, but down south (here) the ground never freezes. Also a quick question, "Hummblebee" (in another thread) is thinking about trying to grow garlic in flower pots. I've grown some garlic, but never tried in pots, do you think that'll work? Peace, poor_old_dad
Hi POD,, ya im doing good now. just had to collect myself alitle, stronger than ever now..glad your doin better.. Yes i think it was the freeze but a hard enouph frost will probly heave em up allso. thats why its important to get em in on time especailly in colder zones like mine (zone 4) yup yup one can grow garlic in pots or planter boxes (outside) the root system dosent need that much soil, its a small root ball. be carefull not to have too much watter in the pots, the soil must be well draining. pots with garlic are cool lookin and fun to have arround, but as allways the ground is better. peace frog
Hi, we grew garlic in pots a couple of years ago and gonna do it again this year. They tasted delicious last time
I had a field of garlic growing in my garden last year ~ don't know how I managed to grow it as well as I did, but it worked. Garden Fresh garlic tastes so wickedly good....
