When I hear about our military men and women who are sent off to war in the name of God and Country, and who give up their lives for no rational cause at all, my heart is troubled . What has happened to our country? We have become worse than the imagined enemy - killing civilians and calling it “collateral damage”, torturing and trampling human rights, violating our Constitution, lying about why we went to war, more concerned with sports on television and cell-phones than the future of the world....half the population is drinking alcohol and/or using drugs because they cannot face the daily stress of living in the richest nation in the world. We attacked an Arab nation under the deception of “Weapons of Mass Destruction”. Our invasion and occupation has destroyed Iraq, and destabilized the entire region. Everyone who pays taxes has blood on their hands. The violent turmoil initiated by the our nation’s military invasion of Iraq will beget future wars of slaughter and mayhem. First we insult the United Nations, then we expect them to clean up our mess. Our elected representatives are supposed to find diplomatic solutions to these situations. Anyone can lash out and retaliate, that is not leadership or vision. Where is the wisdom and honor of the people that we have elected to lead us? To the rest of the world we are cowards - demanding Iraq to disarm, and after they comply, we attack with remote-control high-tech weapons. And then lie about our reasons for invading. We the people bear complete responsibility for all that will follow, and it won't be pleasant. This slaughter and mayhem is instigated by people who claim to believe in God. Many people turn away from religion, faced with the insanity of the “true believers”. God does not endorse military actions by the self-righteous. "Who would Jesus bomb?" God's message is tolerance and love, not self-righteousness and hatred. God says: "Thou shalt not kill", however, “We the people of the United States of America”, disobey and kill. “What thou hath sown, thou shalt also reap”, thus saideth the Lord. This war is a sad and useless national tragedy. I apologize for what we have done to the Arab nations, I am ashamed for the mayhem and turmoil caused by my country. I am sorry for the actions of Dick Cheney's puppet, himself a pawn of the real rulers, the greedy and corrupt corporate elite who profit from war. The upcoming elections are not a solution - our two party system is a failure of democracy. Our government has lost its way. The world has gone wrong by all of its unrelenting sectarianism. We need to enter into the process of unification, integrating all people into a one world cultural - a culture made up of the best of the past of all the earth’s different peoples’ traditions and cultures. Our so-called leaders are not wise persons with integrity and vision - they are actors reading from teleprompters, trying to stir up their brainwashed mob. Our country slaughters Arabs, abandons New Orleans, and ignores the global-warming environment crisis. Our economy can be destroyed by a single nuclear, chemical or biological attack, it’s as fragile as our reputation around the world. We as a nation face the consequences of our dishonorable and horrendous actions. Thanks for the great read, I really enjoyed it. But I truthfully cannot understand how otherwise bright and enlightened individuals who recognize the incessant deceit of our "leaders" still to this day are ignoring the huge elephant in the room. If you're aware that nothing but lies have been spewed by this regime, how on earth can you not question the official conspiracy theory of what took place on Septemeber 11th, 2001? There are activists the world over (including 9/11 family members) who are building tremendous momentum to uncover the truth of what happened that fateful day. It seems that it's only progressives in the United States who are still too afraid to consider alternative hypotheses. Europeans are actively questioning the official theory. And yet, even here in the U.S. there are increasing numbers of people who are calling for an Independent investigation. "Independent" means not headed by Bush/Cheney employees as the 9/11 Commission was. It's time to wake up and pay attention to the WHOLE truth, not just fragments of it. Well said, my brother. But don't forget that only the system that mistakely call itself "America" has blood on its hand - Not the people of the country (at least not all of you). And don't forget about the 'hangarounds' of their dirty 'coalition towards terrorism' - my own country, Denmark, included. My government has also blood on its hands. It's an indisputable observation that The Republican Party is a far greater threat to life on earth than "al Qaeda." They've certainly killed more people, hundreds of times more than have been killed by al-Qaeda. Something like 500,000 dead in Iraq (according to a still undisputed scientific study published in peer-reviewed scientific literature) as a direct result of their lies about this war, plus between 800,000 and 1.2 million dead Iranians from when the Republican Party helped Saddam Hussein use chemical weapons to wipe out whole cities in the 1980s. The only good Republican is a dead Republican. But I wouldn't generalize that across the spectrum and blame "our so-called leaders" as a whole.
Don't forget the 1,000,000+ people that were/are are being killed in the Rwanda genocide, Congo, and Sudan. What about during the Cold War, when the US forced the USSR to spend all their capital on nuclear weapons, starving their people. The people that have starved in North Korea. Victims of the Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. All the people that have died from AIDS and overdosed on crack. Global starvation and disease. I'm sure if you add up all the deaths the American presidents are responsible for, it far exceeds the amount of jews that were murdered during WWII. Oh shit! Isn't the US responsible for that too? This argument is pointless. How terrorist is the USA vs. how terrorist is some other abusive world power. Take a look at the history of the past century alone. The USA has behaved despicably in many instances. Not in defending itself from Tojo and Hitler. Not in gradually (not fast enough...) evolving toward more civil and human rights. But in Vietnam, in Latin America, in Zaire, in Iran... But why this becomes an argument of USA vs. the world is beyond me, given that I can name MANY (probably all) nations who've engaged in terrorist behavior. France in Algeria. USSR on MANY occasions. The ex-government of Rwanda encouraging genocide. The government of Sudan butchering its ethnic minorities. The dictatorship of Myanmar. UK imperialism generally. Well damn, it's a long list, isn't it. Denying that the USA has also behaved despicably is a big step for some. But it is in fact patriotic. You can't improve the country if you can't criticize it. And we have evolved in the USA a corporate-government conspiratorial government which in my opinion acts against the freedom of the people in many instances. We damned well better be able to criticize this and protest it and work to change it or we'll also end up in a Gulag or a Baghdad torture cell. Two sorts of reactions I think are counterrevolutionary in this instance. One is the kneejerk "Love it or Leave it" crap which allows for no criticism of Perfect America. The other is the kneejerk defense of any power which is opposed to the USA. The USSR. Al Qaeda. etc. What sort of society are we attempting to build? There are still elections in the USA. Nobody can rightly advocate other means of change until they've managed to utilize that one. Ya know, I spend all may waking life thinking about things like this. I think all the time. It's a curse. I weigh and measure, I try to see all sides of the coin. Yet in all my life, I have NEVER understood people who think like you. Your philosophies make no rational sense. How can we ALL be living on the same planet, let alone in the same country,and be seeing things so differently? Totally opposite from reality. I won't get into a debate about who is a bigger terrorist. I don't live in all those other countries so I don't really know. But I DO live here, and have my whole life, and I SEE terrorism. It it obvious as anything can be. It goes from the highest form of government all the way down to local the terrorists in the form of State Police and the jail system. I make that kind of terrorism my business. I know MANY people who have been terrorized in their home towns, by those who were supposedly hired to protect them. I read the news. Alot.
