"Each mission is predicted to cost £50 million to £100million and, if they are approved, would be funded by a mix of government money and commercial investment." pfft. the nhs is collapsing and we're spending the money on going to the moon?
Actualy the NHS is fine and dandy. If you get sent to hospital a doctor will sort you out usually right away if not then in a couple of months. Of course there are difficulties, same with any huge body, take the mrsa problem at the moment also the staffing problems, but when looked at in the whole it's there and dealing with patients fine. I see the space missions as a neccesary development if we dont want to completely cover the earth in human beings, somewhere along the line space travel is going to be a necessity and 50-100 milion is cheap as really.
I don't know about about that pab, I was assaulted by a group of youths in the first week in December. I was rushed to hospital with a broken nose, 4 chipped teeth(one of them was actually shattered) and some serious concussion. I was left in the waiting room to pass out for 2 1/2. I was a state, a girl who was also waiting woke me up to check I was ok as i was shaking. It wasn't particularly busy. When it was my turn to get checked over they made me wait for an additional 30 minutes in a tiny room on a really small chair which i found it difficult to balance on. Finally.... the Dr arrives. Tells me to put my head back, shines a torch up my nose which is full of blood, there's no way he could've seen anything, and told me I was fine and that the swelling should go down in a week or 2? Wtf? How about checking the various cuts and bumps all over my head? An X-ray for my nose perhaps? How about a glass of water to wash the blood and bits of teeth all over the inside of my mouth, bits of teeth in cuts in your mouth is not pleasant by the way. I can only put it down to too many people coming into the A&E with fighting wounds, they must be sick to the back teeth of dickheads coming in and being abusive, all pumped up on chemicals and violence. If this was the case, they made a huge a mistake, I hadn't been fighting. I just went to buy some food at 11pm on a Saturday, forgetting that all the cider drinking pumped up little chavs would be looking for a victim at that time. I payed dearly for that mistake. I was on my own and lets just say I was a tiny bit drunk. After not handing them any money and trying to walk past them I was cowardly headbutted into a hedge and punched with rings etc... I think we should send those little pricks to the darkside of the moon, this way, hospitals would take more care as they'd have more time on their hands and be less judgemental. I'm sorry for being graphic in my little rant, it was the only way to explain how shit it was. Personally I'm all up for this exploration especially as our last couple of excursions(in the middle east somewhere) cost the British tax payer around £7billion, so far!
We should not bother with the moon. It is boring and has no scientific interest in my opinion. The moon is simply a lump of rock in space. Mars is more interesting. What with its icey poles and frozen oceans deep within the soil. The massive canyons and the weather conditions. Each moon mission would cost 50 million. What the NHS has to do with NASA which are based in America. America could afford anything anyway. one of the richest countries in the world. For the UK to venture into space would be silly as the money could well be spent resurecting our dead goose-NHS
A sorry tale indeed Raskal and a shame to hear the lack of conecern given by the doctor. My experience I'm glad to say is the exact opposite. The little pricks mentioned might be better sent to Iraq rather than the moon but thats another story. More money for schools more money for the NHS, are very stale cries to my ears. Upward investment plans are good but money for money's sake ain't, it seems to me with my years of experience that every government suffers similar cries after a longthy period in office, it really matters not whether they have invested money or not, the cry will always be for more.
Lol, the moon is neither "boring" nor "just a lump of rock in space"...the moon is a thing of subtle beauty and mystery, glowing up there all white in the black... However, i to do not think ANY money should be spent "going to the moon" or on moon missions. There are things a million times more important at this time. Like starving newborn babies, for example
I have seen the moon more than once. Bright white thing with plains that make the moon look as though it has the image of a face. ironically it is an impression of a man yawning.
Perhaps it is the eyes and mind of the looker which are uninspired, not the moon. I looked and saw beauty
Well it would be a good place to do research and a good place to have a launch pad to other more interesting places in space. I with you dapablo, in being a little tired of hearing about 'the money should be spent......'. I'de like to see us 'exploiting' space for minerals and better energy solutions. If that stops half the shit that goes on on THIS planet. £50-100 million is chump change. I'm not suggesting it would be that cheap, but this is most deffinitly a step in the right direction imho.
It doesnt matter if something like this has become a cliché, it really doesnt. Because the true human heart cant be blinded or hardened by that The undeniable fact remains that people DOWN HERE, RIGHT NOW, are starving, dying, being abused, contracting AIDS, needing medical attention, and so on (i could go on all day) And the question will always be there, would 100 million pounds be "chump change" to the worlds suffering? Please, i just cant accept that all that money (which equals the power to either do good or bad) should be spent so that men can mess about with machines in the skies while it could feed dying children
Did you see that list of operations they have cancelled because of lack of funds? My mom had one of them, an op on her bunions and if she hadn't had that then she would be in a wheelchair. Oh and they're closing down my local A&E which i really don't understand..
I can fully accept and appreciate that there are human issues here on earth, and money should be spent on 'Global fammine' and other 'worthy' issues. Imho the money spent on inter stella missions. Negates the fact that this amount of money is NOTHING when you look at global expenditure. It is nothing in the GDP we spend on global issues, money IS spent on those other issues. Inter stella activity is equivilant too 0.001% of the money spent on replaceing paving stones, in London. Think about that for a moment. I fully appreciate that money should be spent on 'better' projects. The fact is, money IS spent on better things, you just have to have a open mind.
£50 - £100 million is nothing in government spending terms. - Space exploration may seem like a waste of money now but we are still in the very early stages of that exploration. - 500 years ago it was considered daft (by many people) to explore the Atlantic ocean - Give space exploration time (and some money ) and it will yield great benefits to humanity.
I think we should look at it as a investment. http://www.esf.org/esf_genericpage.php?language=0§ion=2&domain=1&genericpage=72
it does seem lyk a waste to me. but i dont know how space exploration has helped people on Earth. any info anyone? and although the NHS isnt in great shape (if you have anyone who works for it living with you, you'll know why), its still pretty good. but £100 million would help, though most of it would go on paperwork and so forth.......
That money isn't being shot into space, its being paid to working people here on the Earth. Its creating jobs and new technology.

thanks but couldnt the stuff have been invented with the same billions of £/$/whatever, and then have loads left over for other earth based causes, rather than on rockets and stuff. what has the results of space exploration given us of any use?
