I was just wondering how long I would have to wait to start having sexual intercourse with my boyfriend? I received the shot yesterday at 10:30 am. I've read on multiple sites including the one site where I get my shots from that it is effective imediately during your period (3-7 days cycle). When I asked the nurse, she hesitated to tell me and said "...to wait a few weeks." I got the shot on the second day of my period. Today is the third. My periods normally only last three days. So how long should I wait? Any answers would be appreicated. Thanks.
My wife is on it and she said to be safe, wait a few weeks. That's to make sure the shot is right for you. I'm sure there will be alot of ladies here who can tell you the bad effects they had (excessive bleeding and such). But if none of it happens to you, then it's right. BTW did they give it to you in the leg or stomach? It used to be the arm. My wife got it in her stomach and siad it didn't leave a buise like her leg (she thinks they hit a vein).
LoL. They gave it to me in the upper left arm. My arm is still a little sore from it, but *shrugs* I can deal. I have had some side effects which I don't mind. Increased hungry, slight bleeding (spotting), fatigue, nervousness, and sick to my stomach. BUT! I can handle and don't mind these side effects. Nothing has really changed as far as sex drive, weight. I'm sure over time it might. But, we feel that I okay for the moment and hopefully should be the perfect canidate for the depo. 7-10 days but have you read up on the depo shot its once of the more bad birth control methods. i was taking it for awhile but i spotted constantly. i fount out it decreases your chances of getting pregnant when you get off of it and it causes cancers like ovarion and breast. just thought you might like to know
I waited a week, I've been on it for 1 year and just had the Essure procedure done last week so hopefully I will only have to have 1 more shot. Its not been a good experience I've gained about 15 lbs since I've been on it, my periods have been unpredictable to say the least either I don't have one for months then have one that last for weeks! its aweful. the shot is very easy and convenient but I wasn't happy with the side affects and they say it will take 6-8 to get it out of my system.
My freind is on it though she went on it after she got really bad headakes with the pill.... but i like the pill i thought it was beter looking at the side effects of the depo as it takes you ages to have akid after stopping and stuff.
Damn, I only went through 2 of the shots with this shit before I knew it wasn't for me. I'm telling you that it made me such a bitch. Not even kidding! I still get bitch some but nothing like when I was on it. Plus, I spotted constantaly, there was never a day I could go without a panty liner (tampons were too much but I couldn't go without wearing anything!) The mood swinges were definitely the worst for me! To answer your question though, give it 2 weeks to a month! If you are already sexually active and are just changing up birth control, you probibly can go ahead and be active now, just use a condom!
I've been on it for 5 months... i have light bleeding for a week every 2 months... other then that and the sore arm thing thats all that happen to me...
I never even got my period while on the shot. I would go 3months in between each shot and it gave me terrible side effects and almost instantly made me start gaining wait and my boobs got like 3 sizes bigger. I was on the shot for almost 8yrs.....I wouldnt advise it to anyone, but thats just my opinion. I guess it must work differently for everyone. The answer to your question should be advised by your doctor. I have on answer to it. I would use a condom and some spermicide anytime I have sex anyhow. Whether its a female condom or a male condor or whateva. Extra protection with your partner is a good thing no matter who you are if you dont want to get pregnant or get anythin. You should prolly expect your period to change dramatically from no on though, I will say that. I bet anythin it wont be the normal 3 days like it has been who knows. It may last longer or shorter or like me you might not get it at all.
please look into the long term affects of depo provera. it is HORRIBLE for your body. i was on it for 4 years and affects bone density and now i have osteoporosis at 20 years old.
I was on it for two years, and I thought it was great. It is one of the "more side effects" birth control methods, but I never had any side effects, literally, for two years. And studies have shown recently that being on birth control does not dramatically lower your chances of getting pregnant after, and actually increases it by about 5%, because your hormones are more regular. So I honestly wouldn't worry about any of those things. Most methods of birth control vary very, very little in their side effects, risks of cancers and similar things, so you are always taking a risk for blood clots, nausea, etc. whenever you take birth control. However, the Depo shot does lower your bone density a bit, which is a risk to white blonde women, actually, because Caucasian blondes are statistically at the highest risk for osteoperosis. Generally, Caucasian women are more likely to get osteoperosis than women of any other nationality, so that is a cautionary note. I would suggest upping your calcium intake as part of your diet and taking a regular calcium supplement fortified with Vitamin D, which should counteract any concerns. And the patch, by the way, which I've also been on [itching, redness, and general dissatisfaction with it, falling off occasionally and general visible tackiness] has a higher risk for blood clots around the area of application and led to two deaths in New York, actually, right where I live. So I would suggest talking to your doctor seriously about the patch if you were to ever consider it. I think it has been questionable and may have already been taken off the shelves. And still use condoms occasionally because it's hard to know exactly how good your b.c. is.
