Wake Up America - We can do bloody well without you!

What a fool I was! What a dominated fool!
To think you were the earth and sky.
What a fool I was! What an addle-pated fool!
    What a mutton-headed dolt was I!
    No, my reverberating friend,
You are not the beginning and the end!

Without your pulling it, the tide comes in,
Without your twirling it, the earth can spin.
Without your pushing them, the clouds roll by.
If they can do without you, ducky,
    So can I!

I shall not feel alone without you.
I can stand on my own without you.
So go back in your shell,
    I can do bloody well
    Without you!

    Eliza Doolittle to Henry Higgins
'Without You' from My Fair Lady (Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loew)

    Wake up America.
We've had enough of you and your arrogance. We've had enough of you and your self-centered souls. You are not the only country where you can go from rags to riches. You are not the only country where front-line scientists are created. You are not the only country where comfortable living is possible. You are not the country with the most admirable civilization, the most up-standing values, the finest arts, the lives most worth living. You are not the moral beacon of the world.

Will you please stop telling us we should be like you! Will you please stop traveling around the world with a sense of owning it all! Will you please stop thinking you are the salt of the earth!

There is a world out here that does not depend on you, a world that is at least as civilized as anything you can boast of. There is a world out here where young people get a first-class education, where they can go on to becoming professors and scientists, physicians and engineers without even getting any help from rich parents. You think money is everything. We think a good mind is everything. We try to create thinking people, people who can judge and question and doubt the validity of the acts of run-away politicians and self-righteous preachers. There are megalomaniacs in all countries of the world, but it's up to us the people to rein them in and not be daunted by the hubris of the people who run the country and who trample all over the planet with heavy boots and no souls.

We want a life that's worth living, a life of reflection and feelings, not a robot-like existence where the so-called values center around consumerism and soulless entertainment. We want human contacts, we want creative lives, we don't want to be just cogs in a wheel.

When are you Americans going to see that the megalomaniacs who are busy ruining your country and the world are just that? Sick bastards with the most enormous egos and the most putrid souls that the earth has ever seen. When are you going to see that you are not the upper crust of the world? When are you going to see that we Europeans, we Asians, we Africans, we Latin Americans don't want you to meddle with and ruin our countries. We can stand up fine without you, but with you we are destroyed.

Sadly, the people in power don't necessarily swing the way the general public believe. There are plenty of American's who aren't into the arrogant machine, who are open-minded, peaceful, and just want to exist with everyone else in the world. It's sad though, that people lump those of us who are like that with them.

I wish I wasn't American, I wish that I didn't have to be a part of one specific country. I would rather be unaffilated and be able to move through the countries as my own person. I don't like being associated with the war machine bully. But it's my lot in life, and I try to make the best of it. I just wish other's would understand that not all of American is as bad as Bush.

It was a grand experiment, this country of ours.Where people of all colors, religeons, backgrounds and countries could come and with some initiative could live quite comfortably. We started roughly, what with the genocide on the natives and the using of humans as slaves--but over the centuries we tried to right some of the wrongs we perpetrated. We partly succeeded, but ever quite. The experiment has been hi-jacked by self aggrandising,immoral,conscienceless,power-driven evil men who care not a whit about us here or you in other countries, unless they can steal your resources. They've let our education system fail(an ignorant populace is a compliant populace),our health system is a joke ,and the middle class is shrinking and suffering.I,personally had hoped the republican party would get absolute power so that our citizens would finally see what makes the bastards tick. They did, but a little progress has been made in the last election as we realised that power, money, destruction are their only goals regardless of who gets hurt, killed or disenfranchised. How this band of criminals took control, with the acquiesence of our so-called press and huge infusions of money is fairly obvious to those of us with brains here.To solve and the rest of you wherever you may be--I apologise for what we've become.I hope that some day we can be looked at with admiration again-and will stand for peace in this world and not as transgressors.I think it can be done--at least I hope so.

most people do. don't buy into the orginal posters garbage. the world is tired of our governments bullshit, not its people. most people with half a brain can make the easy distinction between government and its people. to say the world is sick of a whole entire country is stupid. I'm not arrogant and neither is anyone else I know. I just want to live life peacefully.

Yea, I'm suitably ashamed....... But this government does not speak for me and I find the constant assumption that they do, insulting. If I gotta hear George say "the American people.........." one more time, I'm gonna puke. How dare he try to pretend that he speaks for all of us? If EVERYONE realised how far removed the majority of people are from their governments ideas of how we should be, the governments might not be so able to have quite so much control. Basically, we'd all see them for the liars and manipulators they are and that would be the end of their power over us.
    Wouldn't it be nice?

Whenever anyone, but especially someone with power says 'we' or 'our' or 'us'---think about who the 'we,us, and our' is.They are usually speaking for their class only--but it's unsaid and it's up to you and me,the listener,to figure out.-----eg-"what we need are more troops over there"Oh? not me.I'm not part of that "we'.On and on.Listen carefully.

And when those in power say "a threat to Democracy"as they are saying about Chavez in Venezuela, they mean a threat to THEIR (who is their?)ability to steal resources.Chavez is not a threat to anyone in this country exept"them",the theives.
