I finally rented the movie this weekend. It's full of great & well-researched information, but I must admit I was a bit disappointed. It's very over-commercialized (the DVD costs $20 - if they really want to get the message out, shouldn't they give it away for free?) and it could have dug deeper with some of the issues instead of being so much about Al Gore & his life. The segments on Al's life just seemed out of place in the film. Good inspiration though, I hope more people see it.
I think that no matter what anyone has ever thought of Gore it is a JOY to see a human being doing EXACTLY what he was meant to do with his life. I can't imagine anyone lecturing on this subject better. It's just stunning since he bombed his campaigning so dramatically by,IMHO,NOT being able to TALK!hahahaha His whole life and BEing are wrapped up in this and it all goes back to his youth which makes the whole issue Personal as he speaks it.He makes everything easy to understand so even the Dense will see it! The sections of the movie about his life are entwined with the issues PERFECTLY so people can understand how being ignorant will kill them, and I think, unfortunatly, this sort of thing needs to be pointed out!!! He is waking people up all over the world and it's exciting and has given me some HOPE. I never had a clue I'd ever admire this man as much as Carter for humanitarianism but NOW I do. This mainstream movie is long overdue but the presentation is so well done that I believe it WILL make an impact. The only thing I wish had been emphasized more was the little list at the end saying how each of us can HELP. People can do a Huge amount without changing their lifestyles....just changing lightbulbs DOES HELP! Just recycling DOES HELP! Most of us here have always done those little things like get the most energy efficient appliances if we could afford them or whatever....but I think More mainstream folks are gonna "wake up" now. I really do! The truth of all the facts presented are "scary" and "awful" etc etc but instead of being depressed I find reason for optimism because this movie is OUT THERE! (gads I should have just done a "review" huh,sorry....:& )
