I've never stayed in a hostel, matty. I'm around your age and I've heard too much about it being for the "younger crowd" and also I have a friend who had his stuff stolen while he slept and it was under his pillow!!! The thieves over there are very much real and good at what they do. Watch your wallet, carry it in your front pocket or wear a money belt under your clothes. There are some hotels with rooms for 1. The Singel Hotel is one of those. Comes with breakfast included in the price as well. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but hope this helps you some. Peace, islandgurl
hey thanks no problem i was there late Nov. early Dec. 2006, i had no problem with pick pockets, i did stay with a friend though (lol) thanks for your help
LOL that always helps, doesn't it? I did that the time before Nov. when I went in Aug. It's nice to be able to stay with a friend who knows the ropes. Mine is a native, so they knew it all, including where to get NYC Diesel for 4.50 euros a gram... all legal, of course lol
I'm 38 as well and have been over solo a couple of times. Never stayed in a Hostel because I like to have my "own" space. I've heard some positive things about the Flying Pig though. To me, the Hotel Abba is a great alternative and "safer" than a Hostel in regards to having your own space and not getting ripped off. Hotel Abba It's located on Overtoom down by Vondelpark, just south of Leidseplien. Tram #1 runs there from Centraal Station and stops right out front. There is a Albert Heijn grocery right downstairs. They are smoker friendly and have a BIG free breakfast every morning. What's not to love? I believe a single room with shared facilities runs 40 euro per night during late March, possibly less though. Well worth every euro cent regardless. Drop them a line on their website for specifics in terms of rates. Best of luck in getting your pad nailed for March!
Yup. Overtoom 122 Just a short ways down from the North end of the street. Easy walking distance to Leidseplein for the nightlife. Dude. You cannot beat this place with a stick. If you do end up getting a single room there, be sure to request Room #08, as it is in the back of the complex with a great little veranda and Courtyard view. Much quieter than the street side rooms.
i knew i remebered that place my friend lives just down the street 400 block of overtoom, to bad i couldnt stay with him again , ok im going to give it a try thanks man peace
You will NOT regret it mi amigo. Room #08 and you'll be golden. Smoke a few for me on the balcony and tell 'em James Dean sent ya! LOL! Don't forget to hit Kashmir Lounge too. Just a short jaunt to the South and then West. Have a Grande Trip!
