Any places I should check out?

I don't know Cambridge, but if you have a lot of spare time on your hands you should jump on the train and check the whole country out, the cities are great. The countryside is amazing in summer, the coasts(especially the south)...Stonehenge, Scotland, wales and Ireland can cost around £5 from Anglesey which is next to Snowdonia. Being such a compact little country has it's advantages, it takes around 6 hours to travel from one end to the other.

I'm a student at Cambridge. Lots to see and do there, it's a really great city. Give me a PM when you're down and, if it's not during the holidays or my exams, I'll give you a quick tour. Or if I'm not about I can always recommend a few places for you to visit. You might want to see more places in the UK than Cambridge. London's always worth a visit if you've not been before, and if you can make it out into the countryside, of which there's a lot around the Cambridge area, that's always an enjoyable day.

never been to Cambridge but have seen Oxford. Very similar although very different in their own way. I heard that Cambridge students and Oxford students row differently or something on the canals with that stick.

Anyway, Cambridge is indeed an interesting place to go from what I have heard. I believe Stephen Hawkin (Guy in wheelchair and voice of an early Robert Moog synthesizer) is or has been to Cambridge as a young student. I know carol Vordeman studied there.

One thing you will pick up on in Cambridge, is the class system. Each man and lady knows their place.

You mean punting John, and yes, we Cantabridgians punt better than those Oxonian scum.

Stephen Hawking is a fellow at Cambridge. He nearly ran me over in his weelchair last year. I was just walking round the corner and he zoomed right towards me. Another noteable fellow is Simon Baron-Cohen, autism expert and cousin of Ali G. Famous graduates include Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson, Mitchell & Webb, me (erm, when I graduate and, er, get famous!).

One thing you won't pick up on in Cambridge is the class system. Honestly John, having never being to the city, I don't know where you get bits of info like that. Cambridge is a city like any other, relatively cosmopolitan and the students are generally down to Earth. There's a good mix of state school and public school students, pretty much no class discrimination within the student body, and a healthy relationship between town and gown as they call it. It's just a stereotype that Cambridge is elitist and, whilst there are some isolated pockets of that, I'm quite happy to debunk that myth.

Actually it was the mention of Cambridge that had me squeak out! Won't be quiet for much longer, as the piece of coursework that's been occupying my time is nearly finished....

The thought of Steven Hawking saying "Get out of the fucking way, are you blind you daft bastard?" in that electronic voice is killing me :p

    Awesome.
I'll be limited to places near Cambridge itself, but I'm taking only two classes. So that adds up to a lot of free time and walking. I'm sure it'll be good stuff.

When I do get there though, I'd love a tour or to hang out with anyone for a while, haha. I won't know a soul anyhow.

Cambridge is quiet far from London. Interesting Town and probably holds more interesting stuff than oxford which doesn't mean to say that oxford is boring. Try Oxford and then you will appreciate Cambridge. I don't like Oxfords park and ride scheme. You need to take a bus into Oxford itself and is over a mile outside.

Stephen Hawkings synth voice would go great in a Electro trance score. His voice is a vocoder. Wonder how many voices it has and whether there are any styles to go with it?

First order of business is buying a map, because I don't know where anything is there.
When that's done, I'll figure out where to go, haha.

Yea, I think my friend wants to visit Oxford, so Oxford it shall be.
But, as I'm sure, Cambridge outdoes it.

Cambridge kicks Oxford's ass hands down. As everyone knows, Cambridge is home to one of the world's greatest universities. I think Oxford might have a former polytechnic or something. Nothing special... :jester:

John, have you heard Pink Floyd's Division Bell? Stephen Hawking does some vocals in that. Works quite well....

I expect Hawking only has one voice available on his machine. When he first got it, it was an experimental system, and he was unsettled to now be speaking in an American accent. However he's also said that now these systems have been developed and produced more widely, he wouldn't want to swap to a British voice, as his current machine has become his voice....
