I was curious to read this book after I watched the animated movie. I loved the story.

The two don't compare for me. I've known Peter Beagle's book for so long, and there's almost no way they could have done it justice in a movie, no matter who did the voices. I still think it's one of the best fantasy books in my library, and I'm a big fantasy fan.

lol I didn't even know there was a book! I've watched that movie a countless amount of time, I own it actually, and is in my top five favorite childhood movies! But I can't really imagine a book giving you the same type of feeling as the movie did... Kind of like with The Princess Bride.... both were great but just in two different ways.

Reading the book was like seeing the movie, if you know what I mean.

I was reading the book in the early 70's, when I was in middle school. I have always loved the book. In '84, Peter S. Beagle came to my college the night before my birthday. Such a wonderful night! He read excerpts from his books and poetry, and sang songs he'd written.

I loved the book, and to me, the movie doesn't do what I see in my own imagination any justice...but that's just me!

By the way, if anyone would like a free e-mail newsletter letting you know what Peter S. Beagle is up to, here's the addy:
