Last night I had a dream, and in it one of my little children was swimming away from me, as I was trying to reach out to her, and she was sinking fast. I dove down, grabbed her, brought her to shallow water, turned her head-down, and squeezed her. She started spitting up water for a while and was OK.!!!!!!

Water is so deeply powerful an element, and I have always felt a vague, but persistent, fearful respect for it. The earth surface is mostly water, and we should all be ready to sink or swim.

I have always thought that swimming was important.!!
Can you swim? Are you comfortable in water ?
Do you go out of your way to make sure your children learn to swim?

I've been swimming since I was little and can swim very far, my teacher said I was a powerful swimmer. Nowdays I'm a bit touchy when it comes to water, I'm scared of germs you see (mum says it might be OCD). I can't go in water without freaking out because people leave germs in it. If it's a river or something in the wild then I'm ok, but with swimming pools I'm not.

I don't really have children yet (I'm a bit young =3) but when I do get them I probably would teach them how to swim, because when you go camping and stuff it's important incase you fall in a river by accident. It's also a really fun sport and keeps you fit. =3

I can lay on the water, but I don't swim well. I swim like dogs do and get tired too fast :)

Yes. Yes. and Yes.(when I have them)

I am more comfortable in the water than i was before i started surfing. But I also have a fear and deep respect for the power of water that wasent there before, when I was only swimming. Try bobing in 8 ft. seas, and all you see coming at you is a wall of water, and you're supposed to ride it?! getting worked in 8 ft. seas is scary...the closest to death I think I have ever come to. But if you catch one, it is the most beautiful experience EVER....

I dont think it is a coincidence that the percentage of water in our bodies and the percentage of water on the planet are the exact SAME!!

Sometimes I have dreams where Im underwater, but Im breathing and hanging out.....kinda prenatal and comforting

I love to swim...but my body loves to drown.

So I stay near shallow areas or else keep some sort of floating devince nearbye...

I can hold my breath for a really long time though so that helps me out...I like it best underwater anyway- so long as the lungs have some air and stuff...

I do think it's important for people to learn to swim though- although I deffinatly failed swimming lessons as a kid.

You know when you do that thing where you lie down on the bottom of the pool and then wait to float up.

Well my friend really doesn't float up at all, in fact she sinks. I think it's something to do with her having a collapsed lung when she was a baby, i dunno. Anyone else not float?

    I'm a badass swimmer...

I would be an even more badass swimmer if I didn't smoke and actually had enough lung capacity to last underwater for over 1:30 without air.

I had so many wild and crazy dreams when I was little I learned to control them. At first it was breathing underwater, so I would allways take the "bad guys" underwater and drown them. Eventually I learned how to completely control them, and dream anything I wanted to dream. Sucks now though because I don't have dreams anymore.

Anyway.....Yea I can swim ok, as long as I'm moving. If I try and stay in the same place then its a fuckin workout. That is besides floating on my back or something like that. And swimming lessons never helped me, all they did was teach me how to blow bubbles in the water and float on a bellyboard....had to learn on my own.

Does anyone else have dreams about drowning, or feel tense when they think about big bodies of water? I have them all the time. I became seriously afraid of water when I started having little children, and now that they can swim, I am finally coming to peace with water. I am a good enough swimmer, I can just hang in water, treading lightly, and floating for almost forever . I don't do so well if there are waves at all.( I hate water in my nose and eyes). I am sure I would drown very easily in a stormy sea. Water just gives me an intense, primordial sense of awe, that I can't really even put in words. It does freak me out !!!!!

    a suggestion for you, ABE...

I know how you feel...but instead of calling it a "freakout" how about an immense respect of water? It helps me to think that.....fear paralyzes me, but respect puts my mind in places I would rather have it...

I hope that made some sense....?????
