it is an extremely pesticide intensive crop. growing a substantial amount of cotton organically is a very hard feat to accomplish which is why it is so rare...which is why hemp is totally superior since you can grow it effortlessly without any kind of chemical and it actually helps the soil's fertility and produces a lot more material per acre...and the material is actually more durable and lastes longer since it has anti-fungal properties. plus the plant can grow anywhere from canada down to like south america. the growing zone for hemp is one of the biggest of any plant. the plant also produces an edible seed which is actually very healthy and tasty. its a complete protein source and it has omega 3 fatty acids in it. so it could give us food AND clothing, and even fuel if you start to think about bio-diesel. it is by far one of the most sustainable things we could be growing and supporting to help save the planet right now. but yeah, cotton growers end up getting cancer at very young ages from their work... and some of them have to wear oxygen tanks when they are working their fields with the chemicals they have to work with. people who live near big cotton fields can smell the chemicals from miles away and its known to cause a lot of health problems. it is other than the best situation ever and it's not something we want to support at all if we can help it. so shop @ your local thrift store and buy hemp+ and organic clothes when you can : )
