i just finished a school assignment about two current events of my choosing.
one, was the rising temperatures in the Himalayans, and the rapidly melting glaciers in the area.
two, was about the oil searing done by the Zetah Oil Company (a subsidary of the French company Maruel & Prom) in the Congo, including undergroung explosives.

and the only way i can think to respond to all of this is to break down and cry.
i dont know why people allow things to get like this.
i dont know why governments around the world spend millions upon millions of dollars searching for oil, trying to build fences around countries (cough illegal immigrants cough), exploring mars, trying to break into national reserves (again.. all for oil).
i dont know why people choose not to spend all that money, time, energy, power, on alternatives to oil, wood, cotton, every other recource our earth has given us but we choose to take advantage of.
    fjskatjekatjsdfajsd.

    makes me sad.
in sum: does anyone know of anything Northern California based that a teenager like myself can be involved in? ive done the internet things, sumbitting an email address to be used to send a pre-written complaint.
    but its not enough.
please reply and let me know if you know of anything i can get involved in.
im desperate, and google searches aren't cutting it.

I just graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies...I feel your pain. Write to legislators, do protest, boycott companies, start an environmental group at your school. You can do so much...don't limit the possibilities.

    Hey!

yea, all that can get depressing, I know, I used to be in the same position. i'm still only 20 I still sometimes ask those questions.
Being in high school and stuck living under your parent's roof has it's limitations. (I'll assume you're in high school, hence the paper, and living with your parents but correct me if I'm wrong.) I was lucky enough to live close enough to D.C. to drive to volunteer with organizations like Food Not Bombs, DC Infoshop, and Compassion Over Killing - I'll check to see if there are any organizations in northern california that you can check out.
but anyone, not only teenagers, should always constantly educate themselves - whether it's about environmental issues, foreign policy of the U.$., animal liberation, feminism, anarchist thought, religion, Do It Yourself projects, organic gardening, etc. knowing what is going on and being able to think for yourself and having knowledge to back yourself up will always be useful. - if there are any specific topics that you're interested in i could recommend some books or even organizations that have more information on the subject and how you can help.
Consume less. Use energy efficient lightbulbs, turn your computer off if you're not going to be using it for a while(like don't leave it on all day with your 'away message' up), ride your bike when possible, take public transportation, don't get plastic bags when shopping - bring your own, recycle paper - if it still has a good side to it use that side, try not too eat too much packaged food - go to local markets and buy organic, don't support restaurants like McDonald's that slash and burn parts of the rainforest to raise cattle on cheap land, get clothes from a thrift-store when possible, use rags/handkerchiefs instead of paper towels and tissues - just get a few and wash, hang clothes outside to dry instead of in the dryer or even outside - may take longer but whatever, get an energy saving shower head and take shorter/less showers, you can fill a plastic bottle with sand/dirt and put it in the back of the toilet where the water and lever stuff are in the back - that'll save water on each flush, eat organic food, don't eat genetically modified foods, eat more of a plant-based diet, get into gardening and grow your own food, etc. - sorry, i got a little carried away, but you get the idea.
Don't get me wrong, using alternatives and pushing for them can do good, but you also have to realize that most of these alternatives aren't going to 'save the day' - they're a good place to start, but it's not so much that we don't consume the right things the right way but that we just consume too much.
I hope that helps, but feel free to ask me clarify anything or ask any other questions you might come up with.
    namaste

Yep, You shouldn't feel bad. This is not fault remember about that. Unfortunately "masters" of this world are businessman and they want make money. Oil, gas are now really good sources to make big money. That's the way which world choose many years ago. That's sad.

not after i signed up for classes at a local community college that are going to jump start me going to humboldt, where i'll get my bachelor of science in wildlife, "with the option in wildlife management and conservation".

which will ultimately help me do what i want to do and be a marine conservationist.
