    No, I don't let bums into my house, they can get as cold as an ice cube for all I care.

    Yer a nice guy, Max.

    I've let folks down in their luck stay here, as well as found them their own places. I've taken in strangers who needed a place to spend the night and food to eat. I have set up homeless people with a home, food, and good neighbors to help them. I have opened my home to city folk who wished for a taste of country life.

    You should always go into these things realising that you may not be doing anything more than enabling someone with alot of problems to continue on in their same troubled path, and you need to understand that you should not try to do any more than you can AFFORD (not just money wise), because some will simply USE you until until you are used up or until something better comes along. But there are also those who are honorable and a joy to have as visitors, their visit being an entertaining and pleasant adventure, and sometimes folks will offer to do some chores that you never seem to get around to. I have to say, I have met some VERY interesting folks, and made a few good friends along the way. AND, it feels good to know you are doing some good in this hard world of cold and apathy.

    As humans, we all need some help occasionally. If you're the kind of person who is willing to help, even a stranger, you are probably also the kind of person who others would want to help in a pinch.
    :)

    @earthmother

    Its wonderfull how you can do that!
    I take my hat off to you

    @maximusxxx
    Sometimes anyone can hit bad luck. or get screwed over or something doesnt work out and oops what now?
    All of us has the potential to be homeless.
    its a constant threat in life (if you perceive it to be a threat which it generally is in the usa but its not so bad in some countries at all, again its all down to prioities in life, like the babas in india, or in the middle east where any good muslim will open his door and his fridge to you if you need it as part of their religion, etc)

    kindness comes back to you

    If you honestly have nowhere to go, and no prospects, I'd advise in suicide. No seriously, life can end quite easily, if you're really screwed and you honestly have nothing to live for, why live?

    Being down on your luck does not equal having nothing to live for! Well, maybe in your book it does... Why live indeed. Life is an adventure, and as in any good movie, not all the scenes are pretty. Everybody can find somewhere to go, even those who might be considered horrible people can seem to land somewhere for short periods of time until they wear out their welcome. I have known many folks who simply choose to drift, and they have a great time. It's all in how you treat people. Respect and a willingness to lend a hand goes a VERY long way when you are living on the road or the street. The worst possible thing that a "homeless" person can do is to see themselves as a victim. Instead they could see it as opportunity for change and freedom. Homelessness looks alot different in the city than it does in the country too. I do know quite a few young folks locally who would probably be classified as homeless if you had to classify them "officially", but they always have somewhere to be. No, having "nothing to live for" is in a whole different catagory than being poor or homeless. That's more along the lines of severe depression or other forms of mental illness. Yes, and mentally ill people kill themselves all the time. But that's not what we are talking about. We are talking about opening your home and heart to someone who needs help.

    I'm not talking about a good hard working mechanic who got screwed over somehow and lost his bussiness, no, I'm talking about a bum, with no education, no family, nothing to offer to society other than hard labor, it's your choice, death is death, I can't understand why so many people cling to life even when they know the end is near, just to take one more breath, we're not going to live forever, we all die eventually, suicide is simply quickening the process.

    What if that mechanic doesn't have any education, besides in his field of work (ie dropped out of highschool, didn't go to college). I've known mechanics like this. So if one of these hardworking mechanics gets screwed, has no family, and can't really offer anything that you see as valuable to society, he should just die?

    Do you listen to yourself? If he's a mechanic ( and if he's a good mechanic that means he isn't an idiot ) he's usefull. You people amaze me sometimes.

    It's very simple really, I'm surprised you don't understand the fundamentals of human existance and the will to live. If life is no biggie to you, then why don't YOU kill yourself? Because there are MANY countless people who would fit your definitions and who DO wish to live, for many reasons. Things are always changing. Just because something is not going well now does not mean it won't be better in the future. Go back and read some of your own anti abortion posts for heavens sake!!! As YOU yourself would say, how do you know that someday that human being won't turn out to be a savior or something?

    The "education" of which you speak means nothing at all without a heart and common sense. There is NOONE in this world without family, even if they are not related by blood. And everyone has something to offer society, even if it is an example NOT to follow. Use your head, find your heart.

    Hey Maxiiipoo, you're young and ignorant...you've already established that with your first post here...you can relax now...we all got a picture of how little you know about life and people...It's OK. When it warms up again you can go out and kill ants on the sidewalk or something.

    Oh I'm sorry great one, why don't you educate us on the meaning of life?

    You're entitled to your opinion as am I.

    P.S. I'm in a hunting club, I don't kill ants, I kill bunny rabbits, when I can, otherwise I shoot birds, ants are too easy to kill, they're not challenging, killing something like a bunny rabit is, for you see, you usually only get one shot at a bunny, if you miss, it's gone.

    I don't claim to know the meaning of life and I damn sure don't claim to know the value of another human being's life. I used to hunt with a gun when I was young enough to need an advantage over my prey... now I hunt with a camera looking for Caiman, Jaguars, and Bush Masters. Try to imagine another life being worth as much as your own...you'll be surprized many may even have greater worth...when you get that figured out you may attain a great prize...humility. Happy hunting.

    So you've travelled alot eh? Have you been to Romania? Where a good 8 out of 10 people is either a bum, gypsy, prostitute or employee of a dead end job.

    No, we're not 3rd World, we don't have nearly as much shit.
