I´m planning this for years and everytime something holds me back, a new school, a new job...
But now I´m saving money to go and use my once-in-a-lifetime-visa to work and travel in australia.
Hopefully I really like that and get along well, wandering around. Oh my, that will be a huge adventure YAY

Lived out of my car as a teen. Out of a van in my 20's with one kid, going from Res to Res. Picked up and moved with no plans, kids and pets a couple times since. Now that I'm down to my self and two dogs, I'm thinking dog cart and off into the woods.

Adding: never running from anything, just finished with things. I think that's important, all loose ends tied, etc. Not against anything, the outer war is a reflection of the inner one which will follow wherever we go. Self-sufficient emotionally, spiritually, physically, intellectually: no dependency on us or by us to hold us back. Makes us a blessing rather than merely a receiver of blessings.

I don't necesarily want to 'backpack,' but I do want to see the country, and parts of the world. I'm gonna do it in a van though, with lots of backpacks

i've done it. more then once.
i'm not too likely to anymore, living where and how i do at the moment.

i have the good fortune though, of my life not being THAT mundane.
i don't think it ever has been.

i guess about the only thing keeping me from doing that now, putting one foot ahead of the other and not looking back, is knowing how long it would likely take me before i would have another chance to connect to this internet if i did.

    multiple years at least.

and i'm at an age now, where i really don't realisticly likely have that many decades ahead of me.

of course there's always the chance i'd actualy live longer if i did.
that's one of the things that does continue to tempt me.

most of the things that interest me though, other then wandering arround and exploritn itself, pretty much require someplace where i can set something down and have a reasonable expectation of it still being there when i get back.

otherwise i probably would have about five or six years ago.

i'm sure my wife could find someone else to love if she had to.
and i don't have any kids or dependents on me of any kind.
SHE is the one paying the rent. she gets her check.
so i wouldn't have to feel bad about that.

my mother just has her and me though.
for as long as she's arround.

    after that, who knows?

never know what life will bring or when.
maybe well have a place of our own we can rent out or invite others to
or maybe we'll find some way to hit the road togather
or maybe all three of us will be one with the dao.

    just never know.
most likely i'll still be sitting right here, pounding on this keyboard though.

    still never know.

    =^^=

I want to be on my own. Like a complete unknown. No direction home, like a rolling stone. Thats what I want, I just need to figure out how I can find myself with no direction home. My home being the land, the land being my home.

    Scroungin my next meeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaallll

Been there, done it, and knowing my life I probably will again. :) At the moment, I'm happy where I am and in this living situation. But I try never to be too attached to my possessions, and my personal motto is "Home is where the dog is: ;)

Man, I'm totally in the minority! I like my life too much to leave! Sure it would be fun to explore, but, well, I have three children, family all around me, and the thought of just taking off and leaving...couldn't swing it.

I've wanted to do that since high school. Guess I got suckered into being responsible.

One does not have to be unhappy about their circumstances to know a cycle is complete. It is only when we aren't aware of it that we wait until our happiness is interrupted to move into the next cycle, next phase, next incarnation. Being aware when happy avoids the need for intense dramas of confliction, victimization, trauma and bridge burning to move us forward. Is it so unbelievable that we can move from happiness to happiness in peace and joy?

Even the dictionary defines responsible as a moral perspective, morals being subject to individual perspective and one's own discernment; sense of self. Simply put: only we know what our true responsibilities are, what we are responsible for and what we are not.

Well there was a time when I took off periodically with no destination in mind for a while. The last time was three years ago. I got on a bus with a backpack and my at the time 1yr old headed for a ferry at Dover and ended up in south Morocco. We chilled there for a couple of months before returning to the UK.

Now I have found the ideal place to live I don't feel the need to travel anymore.

A child of the universe is at home anywhere in it's father's house, yes? And a child of the Earth is at home anywhere in it's mother's house, yes? ;)

Every day my wanderlust burns a little hotter, and the chains of the self-imposed prisons we put ourselves into feel a little heavier.
I planned on fulfilling this dream in five years....but it may be a matter of weeks, the way I'm starting to feel.

Anyone else feel like coming along?

that's awesome, I guess i just want to wander to find the perfect place to settle down, where i can be who i want to be at that specoific moment and get on the road again if i feel like the place doesn't fits me anymore.

i think that if all those people who live at home (with their parents) and visit this forum would get on the road and meet each other, a movement could arise

yeah, there sure are alot of us, too.

When I was 12 I read "Travels with Charlie in Search of America" by John Steinbeck, and ever since I've wanted to buy a van or a bus, furnish it for living, paint it, and then just go. the only problem with that is that It would bind me to just one country. I was thinking of maybe after I've seen my own country, buy a ticket, and backpack Europe.
