I have decided several month ago to grow my hair long, even if it grows in an afro as it is curly. I am always feeling bonded to long haired people. I want to be a long haired person. It is the look that I want. I know and have been a free thinker without longhair. I just want to be able to put it in a pony tail someday. I think people look great with short or long hair. People are people and deserve to have their wishes respected and not be persecuted by the public. That's all.
i know lots of hairy guys who have nothing with hippies at all, cuz they are metalheads. if i think someone looks like a hippy to me , it's more because of his/her colourful clothing (when it comes to hair, I guess dreadlocks will even be a better indication of a hippy than normal long-hair). offcourse there are a lot of folks around with a great mind-set who don't look like hippies at all
lol. I gues it is easier when your social circle is in music. darn few hardcore metal heads in my circle unless they happen to be whizzbang techies to boot.
i originally liked long hair as response to too many years of military crewcuts. In my 20's i was always trying to grow my hair/mustache/sideburns. Eventually i decided that it is much simpler to not worry too much about my hair and beard. i have a beard because i hate shaving, not because i love beards or want to look like a hippie(i accept the term). From my years as a traveller, i tended to make little judgements about people all the Time, as the original poster stated, based on anything from their shoes, hair, body hair, piercings, dental, brightness of tye die, etc. It was survival instinct that kept me observant of these little indicators. But in the end, most of the results of my "scan" would be set aside until i had spoken/hung out with someone. Some people are more readable than others. If someone fails too many of the indicators, it's a good Time to be less open with them... maybe keep to yourself your income source or felony record. But there is still plenty to talk to folks about to get a better opp to judge/gauge their kindness.
It seems to be true to me, however I concider myself a genuine hippie but i shave my armpits (I'm a dancer and i wear skimpy leotards and the hair creates more odor) and my hair has been died in the past which means the first 6-8 inches of it is natural and the other...20-ish inches is blackish/dark brown.
Im very good at observing so I usually observe the person I'm getting to know. I have shoulder blade length hair. It was as long as my hips but i got it all chopped when i was ten. Retretted that..
First of all the first words,.. I usually judge. Stop judging. First of all, I dont think you can judge people and call yourself a "real hippy". Second of all the term "real hippy" isnt defined by how someone looks. You cant define a hippy, it is something close to being connected to your natural spirit and the earth, but you cant label it and give it an image. Havent you ever heard of not judgin a book by its cover? If you dont, you will be attracted to the wrong things. If you judge others than you judge yourself aswell on the inside and will stay insecure. Only by letting others have their own beliefs and styles will you truley let yourself in your mind be free. JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED YOURSELF!
I /want/ long hair, but I've been growing it since I was 0 and it's only juuust reached my shoulders a few months ago. *sigh* My hairdresser just says I'll have to put up with it, it's the type of hair I have.
I Have Somewhat Long but also Short hair. I don't exacly Call a Hippie someone with long Hair. I Just go upon thare Spiritual Nature and So on... It's not about how they look. Glower
I've gone back and forth between long and short hair, havin' a beard and not havin a beard. At the moment I happen to have short hair and no beard. Whys that? Well I like having short hair better, its easier to deal with and I get more attention from the opposite sex. As for the beard, well I do love having a good beard but I'm kind of impusive when it comes to busting out the beard trimmer, so I might as well go beardless for a little while To judge whether somebody is kind or not based on the length of their hair is just like assuming because somebody is Chinese that they must know kung-fu. I know some really kind people with short hair, and some real dirtbags that rock the dreadie-hippie look. I let my freak flag fly with my actions and unusual displays of postive energy which most people aren't used to experiencing. If somebody gives me the benefit of the doubt only because my hair is short, but I might have got to teach them something or influence their life because of it, thats OK with me. Oh yes I agree with the poster who said the worst thing is to try too hard. It's not about how you look -- if you are for real people will know from your energy.
we all judge. PREjudging gets us in trouble. if you see someone at a show buying stash and that person is later busted, well, yeah, I'm judging that the deal was potentially a narc. If soem guy hits on me in a slimy manner every time I see him, I can count on it happening again.
Our subconcious judges without us knowing it. "it's not stereotyping if it's true" type deal. I like to call it a guess. "From the way this chick is looking at me, I bet I can get here to come to the party." ^literaly that would be judging her, but its actually just knowing whats going down. The trick is to make sure the 'judgement' is true before you act based upon them.
And I fuck around with my hair all the time. Dyed it a few times. Right now I have a mohawk, what does that make me? lol
^^awesome!!^^ I love mohawks white-collar conservative flashing down the street pointing their plastic finger at me they hope that soon my kind will drop and die but im gonna wave my freak flag high!! HIGH!!!! <enter killer bass> go on mr buisnessman , you cant dress like me
