This is something I have been trying to correct in myself for a while, and I think I am truly getting there now...

When I first started to post on these forums I did not really see the other posters here as REAL people, ya know. You get to know the posters as just these entities... with some pictures, a nifty user title, and some quote in the signature. One gets used to seeing them as just that, which makes it very easy to criticize, belittle, and ignore them.

I think that it's hard for us to realize that there are actual people... real breathing people, full of life, dreams, energy, and so much more. People who project happiness, who project ideas, peace, and so on and on sitting behind these computes and typing.

In the past year, I have realized this, and it completely changed my outlook of these forums. It is truly amazing to be able to communicate with people of a purely though based process. All we transfer to each other here are thoughts... the most carnal entity of human identity.

This is beautiful in itself, but... it limits us greatly as well. People are defenatly not only thier thoughts. People move, shake, bake and all that good stuff. People live, walk to places, do things... and then come to this silly forum to relax, learn, and discuss.

In the last year I have truly learnt not to hate or judge people in the "real world", but to understand them. It has been harder for me to do on these forums because of this same exchange of pure ideas, not of pure human energy... but now, I think that I have achieved this.

Lately, I haven't been transfering soley my thoughts onto these forum, but also my character as a whole... for I am a silly random person who dances alot, says "wham bam thank you ma'am" to female clerks in stores, and smiles at everything he sees. Through doing this, I realized that some or most people here actually do this too... they are themselves in thier full essence on this forum (a tad more talkative, surely)... but still, themselves... and as silly as it sounds... that makes my heart smile

 

This Post Truly Amazes me. I totaly Understand what you are saying. Like I thought the same thing now and Like it's just amazing. I hope this makes alot of people think and Make a difference. Thanks alot for writing this .

I so much appreciated your thread on people. During this busy season I have come more to realize that all the nicknames and handles and pictures are actually people scurrying around, going here, going there, having family, friends and a life of their own, and they don't just live in my computer, just there when I log in, ready to read and appreciate my profound entries. lol


I have learned alot about people as I open up, and bear my soul to strangers, saying things I would maybe not normally say to "real people" who I meet face to face everyday. I get valuable feedback, honest reflections, and positive affirmations too.

I feel somehow more connected to you BraveSirRuben, from reading your very intimate contribution on people "behind the screens", and will be able to imagine you shaking and baking, and dancing all over the place, as you lead your "other" life outside of cyberspace. This has allready brightened my day immensely. Thank you for sharing!!!!!!

I truly do see that, but yet again... isn't a false front something that a person wishes to be?

If a 60 year old man chooses to post as a 16 year old girl, doesn't that mean (unless some sexual connotation is involved) that something in that old man wants to be a 16 year old girl?

But I do see what you mean, defenatly... some people exgerrate, create, or just lie... some people just come to drop thier negative energy off at these forums...

But yet, it is still a part of who they are.

They are just doing their thing.

A lot of things are labels... one of my favourite ones is "Dragon Roll Sushi"... that label makes my stomach growl!

 

I love our dear Molly with all of my heart. He brings way too much entertainment to this forum when people take him seriously.

sometimes i find i can connect more with the people on these forums, baring of the soul more freely than in real life, i find i hide more in real life than i do online

I think this forums truly tought me not to hide anything in my life, just like I do not hide anything here. People here usually have such positive reactions, and people in real life mostly do too. Some people will be negative, but ahh... I just smile at them... it seems to work.

But... defenatly, I can connect to people here easily because most people here share my same ideology in one way or another. Yet, I have found many people like that in real life... they exist in every bloody town in this world.

So I say... do not be quiet, let your heart out in real life as well... and it will generate some negativity towards you, but you will also meet amazing people you wouldn't have met otherwise through it

i love this place so much. i love everyone on here. i love all the friends i've made. i trust them, and i value their thoughts.

here, you can throw yourself completely out in the open, then walk away. it's easier not to be scared when you don't get immediate physical responses. but when you come back, you can read all different points of view on what you said. you can feel someone's vibes behind their words, and pick up on their meaning. and you know that even if some people disagree with you, there's no reason not to put yourself out there. i think hipforums really is a microcosm of our worlds, because even though it's "mostly hippies", we do draw to ourselves a certain group of people in our everyday interactions anyway... i think it ballances out and matches up pretty well.

another thing that helped me grow through being here, is realizing that that immediate negative response i might get on the street, i still get here, but in the end it can be worked out and i can make a friend. in almost every situation. and if it can't, it's not something to beat myself up over. here, we take time to respond back and forth in a way we might not if we were just passing eachother on the way to do other things. but the communication we have here is just as possible in the real world. so if something happens and someone disagrees with me or is rude, i can just let it go.

i've also learned to slow down in my speech, to be honest, to say things that have some substance, and to see everyone as being intrinsically smart and good.

and it's because of the people here... the real people. if we were just exchanging data like computers, none of that would happen.

I like your point about just letting it go if someone is rude to you or disagrees with you. In "real life" people feel forced to win these battles which truly prove nothing nor change nothing just for the sake of being "right". This forum does teach one that these battles, as entertaining as they may be are useless as battles or arguments, while useful as peaceful discussions.
