So the government will be announcing the entrance of cloned animal meat into our grocery stores late this week. Just Curious; will you all now start eating meat again (cloned of course)?

there is no difference between cloned animals and natural born animals, they are still living breathing creatures, and there will be no difference in their treatment.

and no, obviously i am not going to change my eating habits because of cloning.

Well darn it! How about if I genetically altered them before birth to ensure they had no brains? They would never feel any pain and would'nt even have been alive had I not enginered them for our future food source? Would ya eat them then?

No, because that would be wrong. I wouldn't want to support that.

given how small the meat animal (and dairy, too) gene pool is, cloning isn't that much of a stretch at all.

that's just...weird. really science fiction weird. cloning is weird and not natural, and there's no way you can get me to eat something grown in a test tube!

Yeah, or quorn (well that's not test tubes per se, but similiar).

    Exactly
My stance is being against humans exploiting animals, and manipulating their genetics simply to pander to our needs/ego sure as hell sounds like exploiting to me.
Really though I have no reason at all to eat meat, and don't want to anyway.

Nope, no desire to eat meat, even if it's grown in a test tube. That's just creepy. Plus, meat is acidic and bad for you, no matter how it's raised/grown. No meat for me. :)

I mean, most of us are careful to stay away from even GM veggies and stuff. GM eat would be right out for me! I don't know if this is related, but I remember reading a couple of years ago that they were working on growing meat in a lab... Like straight up growing the protein to compose meat, and using genetics to medify txture and taste, etc. without actually harming an animal. Weird huh? I thnk the idea behind it (originally at least) was that it would possibly be a protein source that could be grown in say, a space station. Again, it creeps the fuck out of me and I'm not going to eat it, but I can see why some people would think it's a good thing. :)

I disagree and I had to say so. Meat is only bad for you in excess. It could be and has been argued that not eating meat is bad for you. But I shouldn't get started I don't want to take a joking thread and turn it into a serious debate (that's already been had).
To each there own. I respect your decision to not eat meat regardless of how much I joke around. Peace & love to you all.

nutritional yeast? is that different from like regular yeast? i dont think ive heard of it...
besides it be different if something not-living was made in a test tube-like it or not we've all ingested something un-natural and man made. (medicines and such) but something living and breathing made by man is just a little weird for my taste. :(

So on a slightly more serious note:

Here's the real deal. Clones are now going to be used. It's too expensive to actually clone a ton of animals and harvest the meat. What they are going to do instead is, for example; figure out which cloned animals are capable of producing the highest yeild and use that animal for breeding purposes. They will NOT be required to warn meat eaters that the meat comes from a cloned animal (more literally from the offspring of a cloned animal). Interseting stuff, huh? Probably makes you guys happy that you don't eat meat all over again. :)

I would be very happy if they could develop a way of creating meat without having to kill a conscious creature. Whether that be in the lab, or some other way. It's easy to get squeamish because it's something new, but I think it would be a fantastic development, and the sooner they succeed, the better.

yeasts are cultured, so they can be controlled, even commercial sourdoughs are using cultured yeasts.

Pretty sad you haven't heard of nutritional yeast, since its in almost every B12 conversation on here.

Yuk. Double yuk. Who would want to eat a cloned animal? Wouldn't that be like digestive deja-vu?

I can only imagine what the genetic muation count must be like in a cloned animal. And all the other things I can't think of, but I'm sure are controversial hot-topics for something like this.
    love,
