I dont mean to sound alarmist or "old" already and i know every generation thinks the one after them is so much different and doomed for failure and a severing of al that is good and moral and all that jive -- but, my niece is 3 years old and got some clothes for x/mas...The point of this thread -- does anyone else think little child/toddler/young girls clothing is really slutty nowadays. Some of the stuff she got seemed way too sexy, (maybe not to pedophiles) for a three year old...I'm talking about mini skirts and little pants that say Bootylicious on the back on them...

no, i think you are right. my daughter is seven and there are certain things i will not allow her to wear. i won't allow the shorts/pants with the words on the butt for one...like a big sign saying look at my kid's butt! she does have some mini skort things though...i personally think they look cute...so i guess it's personal but in general i do agree.

mini skorts are a little different than mini skirts though, skirts being open-ended and all...mini skorts are faux skirts...I mean i wore skorts when i was little, i always think of skorts being a good outfit for little girls..Usually i see more little ones wearing skorts than adults anyhow.

I really hate pants or shorts with writing on the butt. I will not buy them for my daughter. However, she has a pair of shorts that someone gave her and I let her wear them around home, but not to school. It's getting tough to find clothes for girls (and women) that is not too tight/short/low cut, but also not too grandma. I feel sort of lost in clothing stores. That's why I like to make clothes when I can and buy vintage stuff when I can't. :)

if i may so bold to ask, how old's your daughter? it is really hard to find unslutty clothing even for myself also because i am 19 and would wear clothes found in the juniors dept. All of it is too sexy for me - i usually buy handmade clothing (which the stuff i usually get is very unslutty) but i do end up usually getting a lot of clothing during x/mas time that i end up giving away to friends...

My daughter is only 8, but she wears about a size 10 or 12. She has a really unique fashion sense. She likes dresses, especially 50's style with circle skirts. I'm glad she isn't interested in typical 8 year old clothes. :H
I could wear clothes from the juniors dept, but I really don't like tight clothes or low cut jeans, and it seems like there's not a lot of other things to choose from. I was looking for jeans earlier today and I didn't find any that I liked. I want jeans with a waist where my waist is--not really low or really high. Is that too much to ask for? :&

i want jeans that aren't tight looking/stretchy -- all i want is 100% cotton jeans and i guess that what i'm asking for and what you're asking for ARE to much to ask for because i can't find 100% cotton jeans anymore, except on ebay lol

I really think that there are some clothes that are very inappropriate for kids... so I agree... but then again, at least our 6 year olds can walk around looking like Beyonce or Brittany Spears or whatnot....

well, the dolls kids play with are slutty. those bratz dolls look rediculously slutty. it's weird. the media has always influenced older people in the way they dress, but now it's coming down to the kids and i don't think it's right that they can make clothes that are so reveling for kids that are so young.

I feel the same way please fly free. My husband would have a fit if someone bought our 3.5 year old daughter pants that said "Bootylicious" on them. Seriously.

Now don't get me wrong I like to dress my daughter trendy, she loves getting all dolled up and girly-girled, just like I tend to dress that way, but I like to keep her looking her age! No reason to rush things!

I tend to buy most of my own clothing in junior's department myself because I honestly like the look, I find that many of the clothes in the women's department feel too "old" yet for my sense of style, but I'm also 28 years old, not 3. [IMG]

hipchickmommy -- right on..Oh yeah i bout had a fit when i saw my nieces' new clothes from x/mas..i'm not raising my niece so i really have no say in how her parents raise her but i really get nervous when i think of the future for her with all that being pushed onto her at such a young age...

ElChivato -- yeah..people sometimes said that Barbie looked sleazy and had a negative influence on little children but compared to Bratz, Barbie is small town....Those Bratz dolls not only wear the hooker uniform but their faces are just caked in make-up..People always said that Barbie looked unrealistic, but okay let's take a look at the Bratz dolls -- they have heads of immense proportions and little itty bitty bodies...Oh yeah, most women are built carrying 50% of their body weight in their heads, lol!

^ i know! most dolls are completely out of porportion.

i don't understand why any mother would buy her daughter those nasty bratz dolls. the next generation will have tons of problems with weight. exposing these kids to these seriously unrealistic dolls definietly can't be healthy in any way.

The really scary thing about the bratz dolls is the bratz babies line, they are suppose to be toddlers but with make-up and sexy clothes. WTF?! Barbie might be sexy but she's suppose to be an adult woman, not a child. That's the main difference in my mind, that Bratz dolls are selling the idea of sexualized children and infants. and there are people out there who actually BUY this stuff for their kids with no real thought process about the sickness of it. It's a sad world, man.

actually, the first time i saw those Bratz babies, thats exactly what I was thinking...If you look at them, not only are they wearing adult clothing and make-up but they also kina have hips, which ironically is one of the many things that the adult Bratz dolls lack..

TerrapinRose, it IS sad -- because i truly think that the people who stop and think about it, are a limited minority...I just can't believe that there are actually people who would buy them for their children (providing new generations of so soon to be women with a plethora of neurosis, a negative self-image, and not to mention a wonderful superficial outlook of the world at large and how fat/ugly/pretty/flawless the people are..

Really, truly sad -- hey I got it, why doesn't Paris Hilton start a clothing line for young girls (she def. needs more girls idolizing her) and then they could sell clothes for girls and have Paris dolls that have the same clothing! Totally bitchin idea, right? ;)

The way parents are letting kids dress nowadays is disgusting. If my grandparents had let my mom dress the way kids are dressing now, their school probably would have called the child protection agency. a couple years ago I was working on costumes for a junior high, and while I was taking a break I talked to one of the kids who had a playboy bunny symbol on her shirt. I asked her what it meant to see what she would say. she told me it was a gang symbol. her parents should be ashamed.

Yeah, My daughter is in middle school and their are girls there who honestly look like hookers. Too many parents just seem to be clueless or they say things like "well those are the clothes she wants to wear." You know as a parent you have the right and the responsibility to say NO to stuff that's unreasonable. Too many parents don't seem to want to do that. Yeah, the kids get mad and it's a drag, but saying NO to my kids has made them better, more thoughtful people than so many of the other kids out there. Parenting is not easy, people who dont want to put in the effort should stick with dogs or houseplants or something.

I think it sucks, because when some of these girls get about 15 or so....some of them look 18 or 19. I was talking to this chick one time, and it was going good, got her number and everything. I took her out to eat one time and everything. Thank God nothing happened because a week later I found out she was 14. 14! I was celebate for a month or so after that one.

In all honesty, I much prefer nudity to the clothing styles of today..

A womyn should feel free to dress how she wants & not be subject to rape or catcalls, OF COURSE, but she must be aware that in our society the clothing you wear sparks judgement & no matter how much you don't want to accept this sickening aspect of our society, it's true.

Yes, I hate that little girls are getting shorts with "bootylicious" written on the butt.. I hate the tight, cleavage baring blouses in the juniors section.. I hate what girls my age are "supposed" to wear.. I hate that MTV's twisted view on beauty causes women to reverse everything they fought for in the first place (respect, equality..)

    Society is fucked up..

right on to all of y'all that have posted on this thread -- when I mentioned to my mother that I started a thread on this topic, she rolled her eyes and said that I was overreacting and that most people most likely didn't care about what young girls were wearing (honestly i think her stupid-ass mother in law is rubbing off on her but anyhow) -- thank y'all for posting
