You could put them wherever you want. It's your body. As for prices, every artist/shop is different. Most good shops here in AZ charge a $60 minimum and go up from there.

Hm. I personally think we outgrow music as time rolls along so just as long as you are aware that your music tastes may change and are okay with having a reminder of a punk band album cover tattooed on yourself for life, then that's great. Keep in mind values and beliefs change too so if you think the band won't represent you, or you'll get frustrated in a decade or so, then rethink your designs. Otherwise, they're interesting.

Do NOT be afraid to straight up ask them how much time it will take and how much it will cost. However, it's considered etiquette not to bargain about prices with an artist. It's like walking into a supermarket and bartering for broccoli at the cashier. It's just not done. So don't even try (not that I think you would). Prices really vary depending on where you go and who does it. I would say that a good tattoo shop in Vancouver will go from anywhere from $150 to $200 per hour. Often you will be required to put down a deposit of $40 to $60 when they pen down your appointment.

Please don't scrimp and save. Keep in mind that when you bring in your design, the price they quote you will usually be a *little* bit higher than what it'll actually be. This is to prevent any outrage for being charged more than what you've been initially told. Sometimes it will be the exact quote. A good shop should never charge you more than what they have quoted you in the beginning if you do your part and stick to your original design. If you decide halfway through the process you want extra work, naturally this will cost you a bit more.

Most shops will give you a tour of their place if you ask though it's kind of awkward to just walk in an ask to see their shop. I would say when you're bringing in your design for them to look at (before they pen down your appointment) be observant! Look around. How clean are the floors? Can you see the work stations? How professional are the staff even during your consultation with them? Do they look like they know what they're talking about? Do you feel comfortable in that atmosphere?

Be considerate if you have to cancel or postpone any appointments. Remember that tatt artists are people too with lives and jobs, and a cancellation on the day-of could have been avoided, and another client could have filled in during your appointment time. Shit happens but do what you can to avoid last minute cancellations.

Ultimately, have the image in your head as accurately on paper for the artist to see as possible! They are not mindreaders. STICK to your design when you have made up your mind. Most artists will do their best to make sure their client is happy with the outcome so if you want some lines a little bolder, speak up. If you decide you want colour and not just black, tell them. But try to be considerate by thinking about all this carefully before you even sit down for a consultation, and far before you ever sit/lie on the tattoo chair!

You should also know one more thing. There is a lot of risk involved with tattoo inks, not just needles. Generally tattoo ink manufacturers are NOT required to put down the ingredients in their inks. Many colour inks include cadmium, incredibly high amounts of copper (blue), and other toxic metals. I would suggest you do your research (limited as it may be because the tattoo industry is still in its infancy and there is NOT ENOUGH CONCERN regarding tattoo inks!!) I have extensive tattoos on my chest and down one arm, so I'm not claiming to be holier than thou or against tattoos. Just be aware of the kind of risks you are taking. Not many people know about the toxicity of metals in tattoo inks.

Nice. But consider that you change over time and you might not want to have music tattoos for the rest of your life, especially where they're always visible.

Even if I dont like punk when im older the tats ima get will remind me of the good times I had back when I liked them. But its punk for life. More then just bands its the attitude and state of mind. I can like country or rap and still be punk.
