Hello friendly neighbors to the North...my name is Evan and I'm a citizen of the world but hold an American passport, which may be fortunate or unfortunate at this point in time depending on how you look at it. Nonetheless, a friend of mine and I are planning a trip to Toronto between the dates of Dec. 27 and January 3 thereabouts. I would love to hear some suggestions on things to do/places to see. Also on places to stay, hostels, etc...
I am a history buff so stuff like that interests me. But I also love to meet like minded people and wanted to know some of the hipper places to hang out. My friend has been to Toronto before so it won't be totally unfamiliar. On a side note, I backpacked Europe a year ago and met some totally awesome Canadians....in fact there were more of them than Americans that I met travelling abroad.

I can't wait to hear back from some of you.

    Lots of love,
    Happy holidays

hey bud, I think I can shed some light:

If history is your bag I'd recomend the Royal Ontario Museum (the ROM). Old Fort York, Cabbagetown and Casa Loma are few other interesting historical spots. Kensington market (check out roach-a-rama for sure)and High Park are both friendly places. There's a niebourhood or 'town' for just about every culture imaginable, china town being my favouite. The buildings in and around the University of Toronto campus and Queens Park(our provincial legislature) are great if you have any sort of apreciation for architectural heritage.

uh, ya, that's about everything off the top of my head, just get your self a good map and don't histate to ask folks for directions

...oh, and Toronto is home to the Hockey Hall of Fame, admission may be pricey but it's definatly worth it if your a fan

peace, and have a good trip

ah, I'm posting this as you're probably already in the city....

yovo's suggested a few great places already.... the only other I've to add is visiting the Danforth (taking the subway, you can exit at Broadview or Chester)... it's Greek Town but there's lots of nice stores, hippieish things, Carrot Common which is a little spot to get organic juices, crystals, etc.
