It seems to have become a LOT more prominent this year. In Canada, most stores took down Christmas Trees and now there's nothing, it just goes to show that the rights of the minorities are starting to infringe on the rights of the majority, it's becoming a serious problem. I don't care about this " Happy Holidays " crap, I say to most of my friends Merry Christmas and to friends of mine that I know don't celebrate Christmas I say something else like Happy Hanukkah or have a happy holiday. I don't get what the big deal is with all this hippie bs. Is anyone else tired of Christmas being put under the carpet to make the minorities feel better about themselves, cause really most of those minorities I know don't give a rat's ass if there's a Christmas Tree in the shopping mall or not, they don't care, why does the government have to care?

    This is all hypocratical bullshit.

I agree, WE should respect others culture THEY should respect others cultures aswell

since Pierre treadue (spelt badly) the candian "culture" has indeed been replaced. this has led to a formidable melting pot with no reall end, all culture loses but keeps there own.....so no one gets a culture anymore.
I love canada, Its my home, oh god I miss it, Ive been down states side for over 6 months, Im going batty

    anyway,
merry christmas to you and to all a good night!!!!

I agree. Most people have become so concerned with the minority that they don't care about the majourity. (and I'm not part of the majourity either) It's pointless, really. Just stuff about trying to be politically correct.

If anything here in the states there is less attention to being inclusive, like what happened in Seattle. They have their Christmas trees, but a Menorah that was being donated was refused.

You can always celebrate on your own, no one is waging war on Christmas, this sort of talk is just another way to push one viewpoint over another. It's divisive and at this time of year that's the last thing we should be.

    Merry Christmas

    Happy Chanukah

    Happy Kwanzaa

Yeah, I guess it's sort of politically correct not to Offend minorities. I say the hell with 'em, offend 'em. Celebrate Christmas they'll come around.

Well, I mean to point out I'm a minority as well, the Catholics are the clear majority in Canada, I'm non-religious but my family is Russian Orthodox and we celebrate Christmas January 7th, but I still like all the celebrations going on around December, I know many people who are not Christian who don't care, so I'm really confused about who's getting offended here?

I'm athiest. As part of my ongoing effort to prove that not all athiests are assholes, my holiday greeting is "Merry Christmas."

I can understand why specific insult words and phrases are unacceptable. But, anyone who is insulted, offended or anoyed by someone offering them a common well wishing and who's insult, offence or annoyance overcomes their ability to perceive the greeting as a well-wishing is trying awfuly hard to be insulted, offended, or annoyed.

Then there are the "I know you meant well, but someone else (not me, but some minority person, whose oppression I am opposed to as you can plainly see by my concern about how you are wishing them well) might be offended" crowd. Their long noses (sticking into what minorities should be offended by and whether people are being nice to each other in a proper way) preclude me from caring what they think.

Putting curbs on how people are mean to each other makes sense.
    ("Stupid idiot"=OK; "Stupid N***"=Not OK)

Putting curbs on how people are nice to each other just makes being nice rarer. Sure, "Merry Christmas" is conventional, trite, and frequently automatic, but its still a nicety.

Oh well, thank you Maximus for giving me a chance to rant about this.

    Merry Christmas to all!

The offended are most likely people who did not have good christmasses when they were kids. Some people just have to take the joy out of everything. Christmas does not HAVE to be any certain way! It's all about TRADITIONS and good feelings. Positive vibrations, yea.

What hippy b.s.? Christmas is just about the "hippiest" holiday imaginable! All that peace and love, compassion, giving and sharing, partying, and the pretty lights.... All the appeal of the traditional pagan celebrations with just the right amount of mysitcal/magical/spiritual thrown in to make it awe inspiring.

I am offended by people who are offended by Christmas.
