I have trouble sleeping and I am used to taking over the counter sleeping pills. I was looking through the "natural" section of the local drug store and saw some melatonin on sale and it apparently helps regulate the sleep cycle.

Ive taken it for the past two nights and holy shit Ive never had two nights in a row where I had lucid dreams. I was at certain times able to control everything that I wanted in the dreams. I woke up in the morning feeling pretty refreshed.

Just wondering if anyone else has/is using melatonin and if they experianced anything similar to what I found. I also found there is no hung over feeling in the morning like I get with the sleeping pills.

I've never had to use sleeping pills before. As far as my dreams are concerned, vividness is basically hit or miss.

I actually have a rather weird sleeping pattern. Most of the time, I can't sleep through the night. I usually fall asleep in my clothes and wake up somewhere between 4:00 and 6:00 AM, and then go back to bed anywhere from 20 minutes to a couple hours later. Sleeping pills would probably help, but I'd rather use them as a last resort. I suppose if the pills are a natural remedy, I might try them, but I'll wait.

Yes, melatonin effects your dream state. I think I tend to remember my dreams much better when using melatonin daily. I take it at bedtime, but more as a dream enhancer and anti-oxidant than to help me sleep. I have always had very vivid and realistic dreams, even without the melatonin, but I find it definitely increases my rate of remembered dreams.

I can't buy melantonin from a store. Do you know any foods that contain melantonin?

you can buy melatonin online. why can't you buy it from a store?

it's really nice because it's not like when you're tired from staying up too long and you want to just pass out. it's like "hmm sleeping would be fun right now..." i'm completely backwards with my sleeping and an insomniac so i'm getting some soon. it's just generally really good for you.

Where do you live that you cant get it? In canada its $5.50 for 90 3mg pills at the local store.

I agree with the above in that its a very natural falling asleep cure, as opposed to sleeping pills which pretty much shut my body down, then my brain and leave me somewhat groggy. Melatonin has no ill effects in the morning. Check it out on wikipedia, interesting stuff.
