I was just wondering, Drugs were legal for a LONG ass time, up until this past century, But the laws are so strict now, I have a hard time seeing any future for drugs at all. Do you think the laws are gonna one day loosen up/dissappear, or will drugs become so unpopular, they will vanish from the country?

People have been eating mind altering and/or medicinal plants since pre-historical times. Some animals naturally eat mind-altering plants, too (for example, hippos eating partially rotting/fermenting sausage fruit and getting intoxicated from it). Seems to be part of human nature (and some animals nature). If you include prescribed drugs, something like 50% or more of the U.S. population is on something or other. Sure, some drugs go in and out of popularity but there has been or always will be some people that do them. I don't think there is anyway to truly deter people from it, even in places like China, where a person can be executed for selling small amouts of narcotics, people still so it.

i think here in britain it wont be too long until the laws are changed...not the next election but possibly the one after...the government are finding it so difficult to control drug fueled organised crime that its the only other logical step left. you guys in america i think it will be a long wait...the amount of opposition to it over there is unbelievable... even if drugs arent legalised there will sstill be a future for them...likeminded individuals will always be pushin the boundaries to explore themselves or to just feel something more than everyday life...x

i think drug laws are going to get harsher and more strict, refined. Unless something happens(revolution). the government will suprees the people more and make more us use supressing drugs instead of drugs that free ourselves.

    more benzos, amphetamines, narcotics(opiates)
    less psychedlics

there will always be drugs though. always has

I think the laws will change for pot and the drugs that are legal now will relapse sometime in the future. I think pot will be at least decriminalized fully (not just in B.C like it is in Canada now). Sure, they will change greatly in the future!

In the U.S., there are growing number of judges, law enforcement officers and politicians that are realizing that prohibition isn't working. It didn't work for alcohol and it does not work for other drugs. It doesn't stop people from doing them and all it does is put the vast amounts of money into the hands of criminal organizations. In general, causing more harm to society then the drugs themselves. Take a look at the prohibiton era mobsters like Al Capone, and the organizations being financed by bootleg alcohol sales and the violent impact they had on society. If legalized and taxed, it would take the criminal element out of drugs. The emphasis should be, in a civilized society, to reduce the harm to the individual and the community that drugs can do.

I think you are right. Prohibition doesnt work. Legalizing and taxing is the way to go in my mind.

I think a lot of the responsibility lies on the citizens to speak out to their politicians, telling them they believe the drug laws to be wrong. After all, some politicians refer to themselves as "citizen legislators" and not "lawmakers." Well, that's what my county's Rep. says, at least. [IMG]

All I know is that everyone in this world should be given the chance to earn money for themselves, even drug users. If they perform well on a job, there is no reason to fire them even if they use drugs, and if they perform badly, then that is a reason to fire them, not the fact that they use drugs. Drug testing is against our human rights, even if it is legal. It scares me how much our government is already hurting, controlling, and restricting us. It seems as soon as I get out from under my parents control I have the government manipulating me too. I truly hope things get better for our world.
